This was my wife’s and my mine 7th cruise. We have each been on CCL, RCCL, Disney, and NCL.
We were apprehensive because it was so long (14 days) compared to our previous cruises. We definitely didn't feel it was too long.
The Star was ok. I felt the ship handled the number of passengers well. My understanding is it is going to be renovated in May/2018.
Large cabin. Lots of floor space. Plenty of storage for 2. Not sure about 4 people. One of the darkest cabins I've been in though. They need more wall lighting pointing into the room. The recessed lighting was insufficient. Also only had one 110v electrical outlet. Better bring an extension cord like we did.
The bathroom was large (for a ship) and had a full tub. Comfortable bed. Nice balcony.
Only real issue is that the room entrance is across from a crew service door, and there is an ice machine that constantly drops ice in a hopper. Also, whenever any of the crew came out of that door, it sounded like they were coming into our room.
Got to Miami 2 days before our cruise. Relaxed at the beach.
Took at 2 hour Antigua tour, and went to hot spring spa. Booked through Viater. Took aver and hour to get to Antigua from industrial port. Interesting old city. The hot spring spa was very nice.
Industrial port. Took over an hour bus ride to get to Leone. Also got to walk in a field of boiling mud pots. Very interesting. Booked through cruise line. Kids kept coming up to us trying to sell us junk asking for money.
Nicest beach on our cruise. Took a water taxi to Modano beach. Got ripped off by taxi drivers. Was supposed get 2 way trip with fare. Only got 1 way. Had to pay extra to get back. Didn't ruin the day though. Ate at a great Mexican restaurant on beach. Don't waste your money paying for a beach excursion. Even with our extra payment to get back. Much cheaper than ship.
