I am a travel addict and take great joy in planning the perfect vacation. We are almost Diamond members of RCCL so we booked this trip a year ago, and we were able to score an aft cabin. (1604). We traveled Mar 10 to 19 , 2016. Two nights in Puerto Rico as we boarded ship in that port. We are Michael and Joanne, married 30 years and went with our dear friends Guy and Tony (together for 20+ years)
As there was an impending snow storm for our morning of flight, we stayed at JFK's Hampton inn...a great clean no frills hotel with a great staff. Boarding our plane the next morning was a little scary, it was like a blizzard out there with zero visability. We were de-iced on the runway and took off through the clouds snow and storm. Warm weather here we come!
I chose the beautiful LaConcha hotel. This was my 4th time to Puerto Rico. The resort is along a strip of beach that has a wavy sea. Lots of shopping and eating local. We scored a 12th floor (top floor) Ocean View Room. These rooms from 1213 and down to 1201 (I think ) have a balcony with table and chairs. The rooms are immense with an outer hallway that you can shut off by a seperate door in your room. The room was well appointed, clean and lovely. Bed was amazing. Lots of pillows. Shower is large step in with a rain head.
Aft cabin. Large Balcony. I think it had a little more motion that I experienced in different cabins. Long walk after elevator to 10th floor, but we burned calories while walking! Very quiet, except in mornings chair scraping above us (Windjammer outside cafe). Balcony has two chaise lounge chairs a regular and small table and two chairs...No soot from engines, no vibrations. Everything worked well in room. Air was good, lighting was good, and we had Sylvia, or wonderful room attendant.
I love San Juan and have been here many times. Some of the beaches close to airport are easier to swim in with less waves. La Concha is on Ashford Avenue, right on Dorado Beach. Beautiful hotel.
Not my favorite place as you are constantly approached to buy things here. We chose a ship day
Island looks pretty, we chose to stay on ship
