Sewer stench and contractors tearing the ship apart will usually ruin a cruise

Santiago (Valparaiso) to San Francisco on the NCL Sun We chose this cruise because it left and arrived at 2 cities of which we are very fond. We had planned a day flight north over the Andes but it was the wrong time of the year, dry and dusty pollution covering the gorgeous mountains. A small disappointment, nothing can spoil your time in this city when you can eat beef of that quality and ...

Age 70s

My husband and I needed a break so decided to fly to Vancouver and cruise back down the coast on the Norwegian Sun. This was out 5th cruise with Norwegian. The embarkation process was efficient with no problems. The ship is well laid-out but it showing signs of wear. It was spotlessly clean for which I was grateful. Having said that, the continuing problem was the smell of "sewage" in public ...

Pre-cruise hotel was the Pan Pacific Concierge Floor Harborside Room - everything was excellent - especially that the bell service took our bags from the hotel and the next time we saw them was in our stateroom. Highlights of the NCL Cruise: 1. Cabin 4249: NCL relocated our room to the aft as requested so we had easy access to aft outdoor deck and Seven Seas dining. Even though it was small ...

First Time Cruiser

Age 60s

We felt that we were well prepared for this cruise, thanks from the reviews that we had read. The process of boarding did seem a little overwhelming for first time cruisers. It was as if we were in college registration lines. It was a good place to meet fellow cruisers as we moved slowly through the line. We were very pleased with our cabin, located on the 9th level, center ship with a balcony. ...

Freestyle cruising is definitely not for everyone and we are two. The ship itself is OK with a few problem areas. There is no cover for the pool area so the pool went mostly unused on our cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles. There are a number of dead ends on the ship and no deck map is provided. A great deal of space is devoted to the specialty restaurants. Most important to us was that ...

I was quite prepared to like the ship as my Norwegian friend said it was good. This was our 28th cruise. This was the first time for free style dining. On this ship free style meant serve the mediocre food in the "complimentary" dining rooms and stick it to the passengers who go to the specialty dining rooms to get the food and service that is normal fare on other ships. As another commented, ...

From September 16-23, 2013, I sailed on the Norwegian Sun from Vancouver to Los Angeles with my 90-year-old father. To give you some background about us for perspective on this review, this was my 14th cruise, and my father’s 3rd. I’ve sailed on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Holland America, Princess, Costa, Carnival and Uniworld, while Dad has only sailed on Royal Caribbean. Alaska has been my main ...

We have traveled many time with Norwegian, but due to our most recent experience will think twice about cruising with them again due to what we feel are deceptive billing practices. We rented a car from the west coast of Florida and took the free shuttle to the port in Miami. Embarkation was fast and our cabin was ready when we boarded at 1:00. Of course, the buffet was already serving. Our ...

The Sun was built in 2001 and dry-docked for remodel in 2011. The ship appears fresh and good looking. It is a smaller ship that holds about 1950 passengers. The cruise was a transitional cruise from LA to Vancouver B.C. We booked a mini-suite at the aft end of the ship. We have had good experiences in the past in ships looking out the back of the vessel, as these rooms seem a bit larger than a ...

We have been on NCL 3 times previously so we knew exactly what to expect. This ship exceeded our expectations. The staff were wonderful, especially our room stewards, Jonathan and Ferdinand. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The only staff that were not so friendly were the counter servers in Las Ramblas. They acted as if we were bothering them asking for tapas--this is not the ...
