We will not write too much about the horrible Immigration to China on 4th of October. We needed 7 hours after a long distance flight from Europe to get the 144 hours Visa and to find the luggagev( which was elsewhere) and then getting a shuttle to our hotel to start the 2 days program in Beijing before cruise started on October 7th. It was not a good entrance policy of China to send so many ...
Having previously read bad reviews before travelling, we feel it is only right to set the record straight regarding this particular sailing.
Like may others reading the poor reviews regarding the ship, we were very apprehensive before travelling but these turned out to be unfounded.
We started on a 9 day land tour of China with Wendy Wu tours which was fabulous. (see separate review)

My husband and I were looking to do something special to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We wanted a memorable event, and particularly a cruise. So we narrowed our choices down to travel to the Galapagos or travel to China. After doing our research it seemed almost a no brainer to choose the Viking cruise with so many excursions included, the quality of the ship and the excellent ...
The cruise was everything we hoped it would be. From the moment we arrived in China Viking handled everything for us. The hotel in Bejing was first class. The tours provided were wonderful and the guides did all they could to ensure we had a good time. Once on board the Orion things only got better. The Penthouse Veranda was absolutely spectacular. Plenty of room and lots of storage. Excellent ...
First time on a Viking ocean cruise. Great ship. Great staff. Great food. So organized! The daily tours took us places we probably wouldn’t have ventured to on our own. The tour guides were very knowledgeable. The food was excellent with several restaurants to choose from. The only thing I would not do again, would be the Chef’s Table. I would turn that into a steakhouse, and make Manfredes (sp) ...
Our son and his wife were recently posted to China, we were going to wait a few more months before going but our very good friends had booked this trip and asked us to join them. We had done a river cruise with Viking but this ship, the size and number of passengers, the amenities, was outstanding. Everything is so well organized and bureaucratic difficulties (this was China, you know) never ...
Cruise provided 1) enjoyable and educational excursions. 2) a lot of history. 3) a good understanding of modern China. 4) a great sense of hstory of Okinawa.
All accommodations, food, spa and exercise equipment were impeccable. We enjoyed numerous on board lectures: history, shipping, and NASA/space travel.
We did a river cruise on Viking Rurik, Waterway of the Czars (Oct 2018). W e really ...
This cruise and the experience was amazing. As 4 of only a limited number of English speaking guests on board, we were treated a bit differently from the other passengers. The staff from the stateroom (Ya Mei) to the Dining Room (Heri, William and others) to the bartenders and others on the ship went out of their way to make us comfortable. Given the limited number of English speakers on board, ...
This was another fantastic Viking experience made all the more special by our personal guide, Terry, who stayed with us from day 1 til we left. All the staff we met along the way were, as always, very welcoming and really helpful and a great credit to Viking.
We extended our trip both at the start and at the end which helped with jet lag and allowed us to explore the fantastic cities of Beijing ...
First of all I apologize for the lateness of this review as I've been busy with life since getting back.
We went on the Viking Emerald Yangtze River cruise because a.) we wanted to see the real China, and b.) our daughter was studying abroad in Shanghai and we decided to tack on a few days at the end of the cruise to visit her.
It was our first Viking cruise, and if it was indicative of how ...
