We booked this cruise last minute via Sunwing Vacations in Canada, primarily for the itinerary - especially the 2 day stop in Havana Cuba. As well, the very good price for the cruise included flight, taxes, transfers, drinks and tips - costs that are optional on most other cruise lines. The flight was fine and our experience with the customs people in Montego Bay, the bus ride over to the port and the port check in was uneventful - just one hour from landing until we were in our deck six balcony cabin. We are experienced cruisers and thought that the cabin was very basic, with limited storage. The bathroom was acceptable. We ate every meal except for lunch in either the 47 or Gallery 47 restaurant. The food in the main dining room was good, not great and we found the service a bit slow. The buffet was terrible, no salads and every time we tried to eat there at lunch the stations had been removed to get ready for afternoon tea. The Snack shack was very good best french fries ever. The bar staff were friendly and accommodating and we enjoyed our Red Stripe beer. We found the entertainment a bit repetitive...every night but one was a Broadway style show, piano guy, guitar guy and a trivia contest. Okay but a bit boring. We wanted a rock and roll dance night or similar...we didn't dance once, which was disappointing. Casino was not an option way too small (8 slot machines). However, the entertainment staff were very nice and worked hard to keep everyone engaged. The best part of the cruise was our amazing experience in Havana where we hired a private guide for a classic car/walking tour of the city, followed by the ship's night time excursion to the Tropicana nightclub. Both were excellent and a eye opening look at the cultural and historical history of Cuba and the lifestyle of the Cuban people. The other two ports (Grand Cayman and Cozumel) we did not use the ship's excursions but walked around and took a cab to the beach. Our itinerary was changed because of high seas preventing the ship from tendering into Grand Cayman, but Captain Chris managed to rearrange the ports and we visited Grand Cayman at the end of the cruise, so no missed ports or shortened hours - much appreciated. One of the nicer aspects of Marella is that they don't rush you off the ship on debarkation day. Our bus to the airport was at 11:30 and we were allowed to lounge around on board, eat and drink and even use a convenience cabin to freshen up before we boarded the bus. All in all we would probably use this cruise line again depending on itinerary.
