our group of six cousins does a weekend cruise every winter. this time, we wanted to stop in havana and chose the majesty and it was fantastic!
i found the ship to be in fine condition and the crew was very friendly and accommodating. this is my 16th or 17th short cruise and i've been on royal, carnival, celebrity and princess. in other words, this ain't my first time at the rodeo.
we had a delay embarking due to the tragic death of a crew member on the way into port. i can't imagine how the crew members who knew this person managed to put on a happy face after such a sudden shock. the muster was mercifully short and well-organized.
as i mentioned it was loud the first night, like being upstairs from a dryer full of sneakers. and too much furniture. first time with a porthole and it was pretty small. nice feature but an interior or a balcony would be better for next time.
we did an independent tour - walking tour in old havana, ride around in convertibles, tropicana at night. havana has a european feel to it. lovely architecture, good food. the ride in the convertibles was really fun. the drivers were very cool. the tropicana was unbelievably great! i wasn't looking forward to it but it was the best thing we did on the trip.
the one day we had good weather! we went to junkanoo beach. clean sand, clean water, not crowded, good food.
