The embarkation in Singapore was a complete shambles! Stood in various lines for a couple of hours. We had a balcony cabin on level 10, which was very pokey, bathroom also tiny (could hardly fit in the toilet), and the provided soaps and lotions of low quality.
Too many things on the Star went wrong or weren't good to make this cruise a pleasure. The ports were great but the order was sometimes baffling: some ports were re-visited and others not long enough. Staff was mostly good, except at Guest Relations desk who were unhelpful, sometimes arrogant or even ignorant. Their typing up of activity & event sheets were a proofreader's nightmare; even after showing them almost every day, this persisted. Information about ports was posted too late or in strange places. Entertainment was often amateurish and certainly repetitious, and activities were boring and often repeated. The food was very good at the Market Cafe but dismal in the Aqua and Versailles restaurants (slow service, food often tepid, overcooked and the menu also repetitious and unadventurous). The shops also had the same old things; some of the sales were held in the wrong place.and therefore were chaotic and frustrating. The shore excursions were very expensive and often not as described. The one terrific spot for us was the O'Sheehans irish pub, where the atmosphere was great, the staff very helpful and nice, service always speedy and the food was good - also the nightly music by the Melodic Trio was fabulous. We also liked the many available bars, helped by the free drinks package (which we definitely would NOT have purchased at the price).
Small and cramped cabin and bathroom. Toilet was so tiny, we had to squeeze in sideways! Provided lotions, soap etc. were of low quality (as per ingredients list). Cabin service: we had to ask /leave notes for everything (replenishing coffee, lotion, facewasher)
Disembarkation was good, no hassles, speedy. Easy public transport into Venice.
