Sail Date: Nov 2016

We booked three back to back cruises which totaled 29 days. We found the food inedible on the Eurodam. The food was so bad, I could not eat it. I lost 14 pounds on the cruise, which is probably the only good thing that happened. Meats, and fish did not taste fresh, and they were always overcooked. Vegetables were often sparingly served, and the sauces, and combinations that the kitchen came up with were terrible. There was construction going on while we were cruising. HAL was reconfiguring part of deck 3, and the smells and fumes that we encountered were awful. One early morning, we both woke up to strong smells of paint, or cleaning fluid in the room. We ended up on our deck at 5AM. We think that it was the fumes that caused an allergic reaction which I had for the entire remainder of the cruise. I had a superficial cough, lost my hearing, and had pus running out of my eyes. I went to the medical center, and the first doctor I talked to told me it looked like an allergic reaction. He later changed his mind and suggested that I should be isolated, and given antibiotics since I might be infectious. Nothing he gave me helped, but I was allowed to leave our stateroom after a day, since they determined that I was not dangerous to other passengers. After several days, I went back to the medical center, telling them I still had the same problems. Once again, I was isolate, and given more antibiotics. I was isolated for 24 hours, then released. I still had all the symptoms, and I was pretty miserable, but I did not return to the medical center. We spent over $600 in the medical center, and still felt awful. It was a terrible trip across the Atlantic. I tried to spend most of my time on the top deck where it is open. I did not start to feel better until

several hours after leaving the ship. Since, I could not hear, I cannot comment on the entertainment, or lectures. My husband did attend several lectures, and visited the theatre more than once, and told me that I had not missed much. The service was not polished. Many of the attendants didn't seem to know what they were doing. We had to hang onto our drinks, or they would disappear. The servers did not ask if we were finished before removing glassware, and dishes. There were fewer servers, and cabin stewards on this cruise than what we experienced with Celebrity or Princess. The excursions were poorly scheduled, and nobody was on hand to help you find your group, or bus. I could go on, and on. We thought we were taking a cruise on a Premium Line, but that is not what we experienced.

Cabin Review

Cabin Veranda

Stateroom needed an update. The only seating was an elderly ugly sofa bed, and an uncomfortable cube. Window coverings were dreary. There were only two tiny drawers on each side of the bed. There were boxes that rolled under the bed, but they were difficult to use, and got in the way of our luggage storage. Things seemed to fall off the bedside tables, and were then difficult to find. The closet was dark, and there was no light in the closet. The only lighting was the entry light. We had a hard time finding our clothes in the dark closet. The closet was poorly designed. There were no drawers, and a lot of wasted space. There is a shower tub combination in the bathroom, so we had to climb over the side of the tub when we showered. We are in our late 70's, and would prefer a walk in shower. There was inadequate bathroom storage. We had comfortable chairs on the balcony, but the balcony was not big enough to use them correctly.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

Barcelona is a favorite city of ours. We love the architecture, the food, and the museums.

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

We were limited for time, so we visited the cathedral, and the Arab baths, then wandered through the streets. We did not have time for lunch here. Wish we had.

Madeira (Funchal)

We walked through the oldest section of town where the famous painted doors are located.

We also visited the cathedral, St. John the Evangelist church, the city hall, and the market.

Since HAL was leaving early, we dined in a hotel. We also stopped at the Ritz for an excellent gelato.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We did take the ship's transfer from Fort Lauderdale to Miami Airport. Avoid this! We had a terrible time finding the bus, then wished we hadn't, as everyone was on it, and it was hot, and unventilated. We had to sit for a long time in an oven. Instead of van transfers, at different times. HAL put everyone on a hot bus, at the same early hour. We were left off at the airport at a chaotic check in counter. Thank goodness we decided to leave the group, and just walk into the airport for a more orderly check in. We had to wait 7 1/2 hours here before our flight. There are private transfer vans that will transfer you for $25. at the time you choose.
