Magic was my second cruise and is an easy ship to find your way around. I wish they would use better signage for all the washrooms on board. It was difficult to find washrooms on any floor even after your told where they are.( It’s not a big deal, but many others had the same problem.) We had a balcony cabin and our stateroom service was great. Su made sure everyone was comfortable and we had everything needed. If not, you only need to ask and there there to help you Diningroom service was awesome. Loved these guys. I don’t know how the servers remember everyone’s name but they do. They were very friendly, efficient and never made you feel rushed. We were always told to relax and take our time. They saw me at the lido deck having tea in the morning and seen that I liked honey instead of sugar. It was at my table that night for dining, along with a pot of tea. It was so considerate of them. The dancing they do was fun to watch every night, and brought a tear to your eye on the last night. Entertainment was amazing. MarQ, the cruise director, is hilarious. You will LYAO. Theatre shows are really good and worth seeing every night. They get the audience involved in game shows like The Newlywed Game. Again hilarious. They might ask you what one of your spouses friends you could see yourself with. Haha, Very talented group of entertainers. Songs from the 50’s, 60’s 70’s,80’s,90’s to sing along with . They leave no generation out. Singing and dancing they do is fabulous, a must see. Easy on / off the ship for excursions and embarkation/ disembarkation went very smoothly. Highly recommended, but don’t go if you don’t want to have some fun and share some laughs. If you do, then this ship is for you. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the best bang for the buck and other positive reviews for this ship and the cruise director. This was our second cruise and first with Carnival. Overall we are very happy with Carnival and had no real issues. We thought there was more food options included and available with Carnival vs royal carribean. My wife also won us a shore excursion and some jewelry. We also thought all the crew and staff were way more upbeat than Royal Caribbean staff. We would go on this ship again. Pros: Guys burger joint and Pig and Anchor barbecue. The omelets in the buffet area. The breakfast in the formal dining room. MarQ the cruise director was great as a cruise director! A number of hottubs were available. The violinists and a few singers were excellent. We had no problems with embarkation or deembarkment. Cons: The all day pizzeria: pizzas were good but it seemed like they could never keep up with the demand (only one spot) and there was always a line. Some of the desserts were a bit bland or tasted off like the peanut butter cream cake that tasted more coconut. While we never had problems finding room in a hot tub at times they were a bit lukewarm. So I have absolutely nothing wrong with peoples lifestyle choices and this evidently was a LGBT friendly cruise but we had a couple incidents specifically with the LGTB crowd. One female couple was making out in the hottub we were in even with other people in it. On another night while listening to the violinists in the main atrium, Another female couple blatantly and obnoxiously started making out in the middle of the floor for several minutes even with many poeple around. Numerous people were uncomfortable and left the entertainment. My point is this behavior is not courteous and acceptable regardless of the type or age of the “couple”, it’s not like it was in some corner or in their room. Ports: Grand Cayman- we won a shore and land excursion. Semi submersible boat to a tour bus around the island, to the sea turtle aquarium then Hell. Probably would not have booked this trip ourselves. We then had a little bit of time to go snorkeling at Eden Rock just about a 10 minute walk from the tender access. Water was nice Roatan- our favorite port. We did the Dolphin swim and snorkel at Anthony Keys. Absolutely worth the money (Though it was about $30 more through the cruise line and there were no openings through the resort...funny) this was everything the other reviews had said and wished we could stay longer. We were also suprised that as we drove the stark difference in housing from very poor to very expensive in a short distance and not much in between. Belize city- least favorite port. Did rendezvous case spectacular snorkel and lunch. Overall good other than swimming with a big group of people was a bit frustrating and the lunch part was pretty weak. We then went back to ship and to the port to shop. Not impressed at all with that area and would advise people to just stay on the ship unless an excursion. Cozumel- did the all inclusive Paradise beach getaway not through the cruise line. A bit more people eventually on the property than at Nachi Cocom 8 years ago. The food was excellent as well as the drinks. Also saw lobster, ray, and eel which I didn’t see snorkeling elsewhere. Read Less

Overall loved the ship. Embarkation smooth. Cabin lovely. Extended cabin aft. on the curve so a little larger. Underneath lido so had a roof when it rained. A little noise from folks dragging chairs but not a deal breaker. Steak House was fabulous as always. Italian restaurant nice ambiance way too much food for me. We could have split an entree and been full. didn't use the dining room at all as the menu was not appealing to us at all and we are not picky eaters. No vairety. Staff was great. olivia from fun squad an absolute hoot. We had so much fun with her and Adriann. would sail on Magic again. Not overly fond of the Miami port but not a deal breaker. All the staff was friendly from buffet to bartenders to cleaning staff. The girls at coffee bar were the hardest workers I have seen. The first show (Western) left me flat but the second Rock one was terrific. Read Less

We chose this cruise for a sibling/extended family getaway. We flew from Houston and chose the Carnival bus for the transfer from the airport. At the airport Carnival personnel directed us to a Carnival desk where we got our boarding passes and transfer receipt for to and from the ship. The bus was prompt and the trip was fine. At the ship luggage was loaded without our having to touch it. Boarding was what we expected. Our balcony cabin was ready before the appointed time. Checked luggage was delivered promptly. In the cabin a hinge was broken on one closet door. The mirror in the bathroom was deteriorated, there were two holes in the couch and the locking device on the balcony door was broken. We called guest services and were promised quick repairs. They never came. Exterior maintenance of the ship was needed. Our cabin steward, Komang, introduced himself right away. He was one of the best cabin stewards we have ever had. (we have been cruising 40 years) The safety drill went smoothly and was not stressful as some are. Folks in the casino were friendly and helpful to new players. The dining room crew was very nice, except for Evelyn, in charge of seating, who needs and attitude adjustment. Bohan came to our rescue and arranged fro us to have a nightly table for 12. He oversaw things and our dining room experience was a highlight because of him. The food was average for cruising except for the lobster which was done to perfection. Entertainment in the theater is standard Carnival, one troupe performing for the entire cruise. Not bad but very repetitious. The ports were fine. We had been to Porto Rico and St Thomas before and really enjoyed The Dominican and Grand Turk. Debarkation was smoother than we expected but the transfer back to Miami airport was a bit stressful. Overall we had a good time and will sail with Carnival again, as we have many times before, but not on the Magic. Read Less

We booked this cruise because we love Honduras and Belize and in addition our niece was meeting us in Cozumel. We had just finished up 2 weeks on Sanibel island in the gulf on the western side of florida and it was a perfect fit before heading home. , First of all everything was truly easy without any major problems from start to finish. Anxiety about boarding, and leaving where gone as everything worked perfect with no hassles. Our cabin was perfect location and for two who do not spend much time in the cabin it was just that. We did add the couples week spa pass and that made it easy to relax and shower. Dining was done on our time and after trying 4 different waiters, we hit one that his crew worked perfectly serving food on time and quickly. Adman was one great waiter. Our cabin was made by Su and he was perfect each and every day. As far as eating went, we did breakfast in room, perfect! lunch wherever, and mdr all the time and not being red meat eaters, had no desire for the steakhouse and the Italian place menu just wasn't to our desires as was the mdr. Realized early on you could look and the mdr menu and compare to see if you wanted to book specialty, but in all cases, the mdr suited us fine. The activities onship where many, the comedy was good for late night. Being not gamblers, the casino held no interest for us and was wayyy to smokey. We used the adults serenity area and watched one movie on the big screen. Our excursions where off the usual, Public beach for Grand Cayman, Henry Morgan Resort for Honduras, Viatinato for cave tubing in Belize, family gettogether in cozumel. Our CD MarQ was fun and yes we met all those that attended the meet and greet on thursday. ( wish it had been earlier but so goes life). We danced, enjoyed relaxing on the ship, and never felt crowd pressure to do or get anywhere. We would do this again and for the price we paid it was a bargain. I admit we are light drinkers so our entire bar bill was under 70 bucks! planning for the free events and bringing our own wine, along with 24 cans of sparkling soda took care of us. If anyone has a question about the Magic, I'd say relax and enjoy. Probably the only area I avoided was Guy's BBQ place as the line was long, it is only opened a short time and from the looks of the food as a BBQ lover I'd say Meh! Read Less

Chose this cruise after a two week Eastern/Western Caribbean on Nieuw Statendam because 2 weeks is not long enough for flying from Vancouver Island and Carnival Magic was going to Belize and Roatan where we hadn't been before. We also wanted to see how well Carnival did on a 7 day Caribbean Cruises as that seems to be their speciality. Like comparing Apples and Oranges but was pleasantly surprised by the calibre of food in the dinning room...very good! I really liked the way they did a long Brunch on sea days and same on later docking time, port day. Elegant night lobster was excellent; the best I've had on any ship and my server asked if I'd like 2, that also was a first. Seafood Shack Chowder bread bowl inedible; thought it was a mistake so took it back. Said that is the way they double bake them...hmmm?? Was amazed by the amount of children onboard shortly after Christmas break; even more amazed that the Lido never seem to run out of soft ice cream...just cones a couple of times. Do many of the children usually run loose all over the ship? I think they had races throughout all the cabin decks at all hours. In saying that, there were also some really fun and well manner kids too. Staff throughout the vessel were very friendly, helpful and made many efforts to remember your name even you only saw them once. Spotlight Comedy Club was easy to attend before late seating: the 'electric' Violinists in Magic Lobby were a treat that we always tried to catch. MarQ was a knowledgable Cruise Director with a great sense of humour and looked after everything in an efficient manner. Wish he could have been the CD when we did 49 days on the Splendor going around South America. Another story. Room 8273 veranda was roomy but really needs some attention; we were aghast at all the paint splatters on Deck Chairs and the room smelled like it had a really bad water problem that never dried properly...musty mildew is describing it gently. Shampoo, Body wash and a bar of soap provided; Room Steward was very friendly and kept us well stocked with towels and towel critters. Cleanliness of the ship could be improved pretty well everywhere...the general mess gets looked after fairly regularly but things like cleaning under and around items, wiping down tables more often, upholstery on chairs particularly in dining areas, etc. We missed having a couple of Ping Pong tables inside as on the Splendor; there was only one in the out door family play area...maybe this the norm? For drinks we usually had to go up to a bar as there are very few servers; bought a wine package for the dining room but had to make sure we had our coupons on hand & filled in for what wine we wanted. Was given a coupon for a free drink on the last night for after 5pm for a value of up to $9: most wine around $10.50 a glass; no Martinis under $9.95 or Tropical classics at $9.50. If you like beer & 2 basic wines...enjoy your free drink. Did a couple of ships tours...one in Nassau and one in Belize. Both fairly well organized; bit more of a zoo in Nassau as many ships in. Got a nice overview of Nassau for our first visit. In Belize we were first off the ship via tender as our tour left early for Xunantinch Mayan ruins; very long drive but was nice to see the countryside and the views from the top of the 'Temple' was amazing, could see Guatemala. Steps up very steep, narrow, with not much support to grab on; even regular guide was sucking wind...an extra hour at the ruins would have been excellent as we could have seen the palace area as well. Disembarkation was fairly organized and smooth considering the numbers of people. Main downside of trip for us, was the constant loud noise; was hard to find a quite spot including our room and balcony. Read Less

We chose this ship based on the itinerary and date, with the main goal to escape winter. Our group: two 50-something couples. Overwhelming: so many American children, why were they not in school? Even the comedians had to dumb-down their shows (unsuccessfully, btw) for the early shows. The late shows were much better. Disney cruise line has more for adults to do than Carnival. The adult-only area frequently had children on our trip. We will cruise a different line going forward. It just wasn't FUN. Our wait staff and table were subpar the first night so we requested a move, which took about 20 minutes of our time, and we were assertive and persistent. Tip: Request items fresh and not sitting under the heat lamp if you want something warm and fresh at dinner. Guy Fieri's burgers and BBQ remain the best and freshest food on the ship. The coffee is strong, but marginal, and the cream and sugar are not conveniently located nearby. Room service didn't deliver my coffee the first morning, so I had to go ISO my first morning. The poolside movies are generally rained out this time of year, and the early time movies are generally for children. Boo! We watched Antman and all I remember are moms fussing and getting up to walk in front of us every 20 minutes to get something for their kids while dad was on his phone during the movie. The critical embarkation and disembarkation comments mentioned previously have been taken seriously and were not an issue on this trip. Kudos to Carnival for making this a quick and easy process for us. Vitamin Sea and the Supplements are a great combo group with an outstanding singer and guitar player. Otherwise, the main stage group is on par with a good high school performance with money. The tenders are a tip-based service, so bring lots of one's and five's with you. We went to 7-mile beach on Grand Cayman, and the local beach hustlers are numerous and intimidating. This is a public beach, but good luck with that. Steer clear! Otherwise, we had good luck with ship-based excursions and taxis with our own excursions. Our room was 9291, which included a balcony. This is a great room! Our steward was Sawl and she is attentive. Ruchelle in the Spa gives a pedicure like no other. I had a $50 gift coupon for the $70 service and tipped her generously. No upsell, just one hour of pure relaxation. Read Less

After my wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary on Carnival Fascination in 2015, we were ready to jump back into it. After weeks of research, we finally settled on Carnival Magic with the seven day Western Caribbean itinerary, this time with our three children. I was a bit nervous about bringing our gaggle of kids with us, but they were so sad about not going with us the last time. I was very impressed from the get go about everything this ship had to offer. We were dropped off at the terminal by our Uber at 12:00 and were onboard at 12:30. The food was incredible. For a ship capable of holding 3000+ people, there were minimal lines. The other passengers were super nice ("Where you from?"). The cruise director MarQ was exceptionally friendly and made all the activities fun and entertaining. Of course, I'm sure you want to know what needs to be worked on, so here are the few areas I believe that could use improvement or just a heads up so there's no surprises: Embarkation: We made the faux pas of putting our boarding passes away after having them being inspected three times already. The final agent that was directing people to the boarding gangway apparently felt the need to make a public display of our ignorance, yelled at us to get our passes back out, and made us stand to the side while another 20 people walked past us before she would let us past. A bit embarrassing and unneeded in my opinion. Whatever, no biggie. Elevators: This is probably the biggest annoyance I had on the ship itself. There are three elevator lobbies (not including the atrium elevators), each with four or six elevators. Abandon all hope if all the elevators were on the top and you were on the bottom because you can bet that the elevator would have to make multiple stops before it would pick you up. Once you were on it, it will stop three to five times, letting people off and on (making it super full in the process). Bottom line, count on waiting five to ten minutes at a minimum to get from top to bottom during a busy part of the day. Not much Carnival can do about it, and I would definitely not call this a deal breaker, because everything else was so amazing. Just a heads up so you won't be surprised. First Elegant Night: We waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. Nothing too crazy but some of the other passengers were upset about it. I didn't particularly care, but just a heads up. Besides those very minor things, we had literally no complaints. Our family all had an amazing time, and seeing our six year old daughter gradually become familiar with the ship was entertaining in and of itself (Day 6... "I'm going to get ice cream and pizza on the Lido Deck... come on sissy!" as she grabs her older sister). Highly recommend!!! Read Less

Just off the Magic a day ago, had a "great time." Points I wanted to mention: 1) service in dining room and cabin was excellent, very friendly, all our needs met 2) check-in was shockingly quick, have cruised 20+ times, never had an embarkation like this, met right at door at pier building and had our boarding passes scanned and walked right onto ship, arrived about 10:30 and not sure if that had anything to do with it or not 3) food was wonderful in both dining room and buffet and other venues, went to BBQ on embarkation before the entire ship knew about it - only open on sea days so best time is during embarkation 4) Italian restaurant at lunch time is superb, you make your choice of pasta/sauce/etc.and are served, was wonderful 5) we were in cabin 12018 an Inside Cabin with a sideways layout - it was very spacious - I would suggest it was larger than the typical inside cabin - is three cabins down from gym but did not hear any dropping weights, etc. 6) music on ship was 'just' ok for us and that is why I am giving it four stars as opposed to five 7) also one thing Carnival has not yet perfected is turning the twin beds into a king without the mattresses not moving apart during the night and you end up with a space in the middle by morning 8) oh yes, the cakes offered at lunch time are absolutely wonderful, the best ever 9) I feel the Atrium was very dull and rather drab, other parts of ship nicer. Think that is what I wanted to hit in this review, thoroughly enjoyed our cruise, looking forward to next one. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a well talked about and loved cruise by many on Social Media. I have cruised out of Port of Miami in the past. The embarkation was very smooth. Arrived at port early due to early transportation drop off. Was on the ship by 10:52am. Cruise director MarQ was good, but not the best I've seen. The ship was decent, could have been cleaner. The service was great in all areas except housekeeping. Major issue was the shower. There was a huge drainage issue creating a puddle whenever you showered. Everyday there were different issues, but we managed. The shows and bands were great. All other activities were just as Carnival promised FUN! Dining was great but after several cruises I am bored with The American Table Theme. I always like to try new items. Overall we had a great time. We are cruising on the Magic again In January 2020.
