11 day Alaska Land/Sea Tour-Denali National Park My significant other wanted to see Glacier Bay and this was the main reason we took this cruise along with seeing Denali. It was an omen-we got to OAK 2 1/2 hrs early. Gate change and we missed our flight. Someone was trying to tell us something! Unfortunately, we got booked on a later flight. Saw Denali.... Fast forward to the cruise-upon ...

Preparing to Fail a Sinking Feeling

To be fair the Holland America Alaskan Cruise trip was very nice. However, the process and the people you had to deal with to start the cruise were prohibitively painful.. First of all we understand that Holland America is short staffed and their people are under trained. However, almost no one has authority or the desire to help others or to do the right thing. There is an old adage that I ...

Grand Princess Cruise to Alaska

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Grand Princess

Princess Cruises had a great reputation, and our travel agent recommended them for Alaska. Things didn't turn out as expected: 1. During the land portion of our trip to Alaska, we stayed in three different inns, one of which was the Mount McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. We had many problems opening our room door with our room key at the lodge, for which we asked for assistance from hotel ...

Couldn’t get off the ship fast enough.

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Island Princess

Wow. Horrible. Bad food, bad service as a simple summary. Lots of whales sighted though (both at sea and at the buffet). Comically bad waiters sticking our menus into our food. Several meals in the dining room were not really edible so had to chase that meal with a visit to the buffet in the hopes of something better than “hot dog pineapple salad”. (No, I didn’t make that up). The ...

Cigarette Smoke, Bad Food, Harassment to Buy Alcohol, Respiratory Outbreak

I have been on 10 + cruises and I have to say the was my worst experience. Smoking; The ship needs to update their smoking policies. News flash to Princess most people don't smoke! Half the Casino is smoking with no physical divider. For this reason we did not gamble along with many people I chatted with. The Promenade jogging/walking exercise deck 7 is actually the smoking deck. It is ...

Old and boring

Well, long story short, my sister and I gave NCL, another chance, after 7 years of not cruising with them. We had been cruising with them on 2 separate ships, and found them both to be less than satisfying. We then decided to give them another chance, and went on the NCl Sun to Alaska. What a disapointment. They absolutely ruined mine and my sister's luggage, along with many other people that ...

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Diamond Princess

We cruised the Diamond Princess, with a land cruise first to Denali Park. The land cruise - the cabins were frigid and didn't warm up until well into the night; the bathrooms never warmed so showers were quick. The food at the breakfast and dinner buffets was atrocious and expensive. The cruise was okay and allowed plenty of time in each of the three ports visited. The bar service was very good - ...

Avoid Princess Cruise Line

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Diamond Princess

From the disorganized check-in process to disembarkation, the Diamond Princess is a mockery of the hospitality industry. When placed on a different deck than on our reservation, customer service simply said they were fully booked and would get back with us and that the option we received was much better and quieter than the original booking. All statements were false. We never heard from anyone ...

Carnival Alaska Cruise

This was my wife and my second cruise (we had previously taken a Princess Caribbean cruise in January 2008). We travel several times per year, but are relatively new to cruises. Our lodging and travel to our port of embarkation and from our port of debarkation was not arranged by the Carnival. Our entry onto the ship and the handling of bags were accomplished in a very efficient and ...

Carnival Spirit - Alaska

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Carnival Spirit

First Time Cruiser • Age 20s

This was our 2nd trip on the Carnival Spirit, and our third and likely last trip with Carnival. We'd had a good experience on the Spirit in Hawaii in 2004, a bad one on the Jubilee in the Caribbean during Christmas 2003/2004 and now a bad one on the Spirit. This will be a review (rant?) about the shipboard experience. The ports of call we visited were good, even if we were late getting to them, ...
