Nothing like Christmas in Dresden.

Torgau is a quick evening stop, and not wanting to waste an opportunity. Our cruise director, Tomas, took us on a walk through town.

Ship's crew couldn't have been any better
"I do appreciate Viking not nickel-and-diming passengers for every little thing, like a bottle of water at the start of a day's excursion. It would also be helpful if there were options for those a little less physically capable of long walks and stairs...."Read More

We loved the "Baby Longship", But spent too little time onboard.

This was our fifth Viking Cruise, and third Viking River cruise. We wanted to do something different and chose the Elbe River on one of two Viking "Baby Long Ships". The Beyla has half the capacity of Vikings River ships, to navigate the notoriously shallow Elbe River. This was not a problem on our cruise, as the river level was high after recent snow in the area. Since the navigable section of ...

Third time was not a charm

On this our third Viking River Cruise, we were unexpectedly disappointed and absolutely regretted our purchase. To begin, this nine day cruise itinerary already included four nights in hotels (2 Prague and 2 Berlin). When we were on the ship, the majority of time we were docked. In the five nights on board we sailed for less than 18 hours total. The included itinerary was very thin. While many ...

Magical Cruise, One of Best Ever

As former cold warriors, we chose this cruise to visit places we had been forbidden to travel while serving in what was West Germany. On our way to the ship, our very first thrill - walking across the Glieniecke Bridge, the bridge of spy exchanges near Sans Souci and Cecilienhof. It was cold and snowing. There was little traffic. It was the thrill of a lifetime. From beginning to end, our trip ...

When we booked, we were told that they don’t cruise the Elbe after mid-July because the water levels in the Elbe made it impossible for the ships to sail. The day before our departure from home we received an email saying the water was too low, and we would be brought to the Viking Astrild for 2 nights, where we had a lovely view of the river. We were then transported to the Viking Beyla for 3 ...

Great Lesser Known Trip

We chose this trip since we had visited Prague several times and lived in Berlin for three years (1988-1991). We were also intrigued by the itinerary's stops at lesser known places like Dresden, Miessen, and Wittenberg. Although we knew that Berlin and Dresden had grown and modernized, the changes were dramatic. The views from the Reichtag's cupola are spectacular and worth the wait to get ...

We chose this cruise because it allowed us to see sights in germany that we hadn’t seen before at a no hazzle leisurely pace which viking offered. it also gave us the option of scheduling an additional day’s stay in berlin before hand which we took advantage of. This cruise far exceeded our expectations. the crew went above and beyond to meet our needs. the food was excellent and plentiful. we ...

Outstanding crew, wonderful trip on the Elbe with Viking Beyla

Seeing the various sites in the former East Germany was always on my “ bucket list”. The overall experience was quite good, and was made even better by one of the best cruise ship crews that we have ever experienced. Jamie, theCruise Director, was outstanding, as was Captain Ber. The crew obviously respected and cared for one another, and that came through loud and clear in our experience. The two ...

Though I booked this cruise for the ports and sights, and they were wonderful, the highlight of this trip was the crew. They were professional and friendly, quickly knew everyone's names and preferences, were most helpful whenever asked about anything. They clearly enjoyed their jobs and each other. It was evident that Viking clearly values their staff and treats them well. The port talks ...

We went with first time Viking cruisers and we all had a wonderful time. The time ashore at Berlin was a lot of fun as the winter markets were just getting started so it gave us something to do in the evenings. Prague was absolutely gorgeous and we look forward to going back again. Time on the Elbe was great also, being a smaller river it just felt like we were the only ones on it, which I ...
