More New Zealand than Australia

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Viking Orion

We've always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand and this cruise offered stops in cities in Australia (3 days) and several locations in New Zealand (the remaining days, not including 4 sailing days). We'd had great experiences with prior Viking river cruises, but this was our first ocean cruise. The overall quality of the cruise experience was excellent. The cruise was well organized. ...

HUGE Fan of Ocean cruising - however the older I get, the smaller the ship! I do not want to travel with children , (will take grandkids on Disney and love kids there), appreciate a contemporary ship with quiet elegence,, do NOT like snobbery, expect decent food, expect excellent service, friendly staff and my choice for paying extra for a beverage package. I also want an excursion at every port, ...

Best vacation ever!

It was easily the best vacation we have ever had. The staff and crew all treated us like royalty. The entertainment was second to none and the enhancement lectures were very educational. The daily excursions were nicely supported by onboard resident historians that enhanced each port of call. The entertainment was nothing short of spectacular. From the 4 singers to the 4 members of the band ...

Fantastic Voyage with an even better crew!

It’s hard to pick the best part of our experience. The scenery was amazing and the port stops were a mix of off the beaten track and must sees. However, that’s not the reason you book with Viking. The reason you book with them is because everyone working on the crew has worked with Viking for years. This is so uncommon for cruise ships. Usually people burn out after months. The cleanliness and ...

Lovely ship and a good overview of New Zealand's East Coast

Honesty upfront...I did not choose this cruise. My 82 year old Dad did but ill health prevented him from going so Viking kindly allowed my Husband and I to substitute. At 55, the passenger demographic (more like 75-85) was too old for us and the activity level for the included excursions was too sedate BUT, for older and/or less mobile people, this cruise would be perfect. The ship is ...

A Beautiful Voyage

The Viking Orion ship is beautiful and peaceful and provided a luxurious background for our visits to ports in Australia and New Zealand. We added the 3-day Sydney extention and arrived on New Year's Eve. Without prior planning, it's not possible to secure a spot to view the fireworks over the bridge and opera house. But we were delighted that we could see the fireworks in the sky from our hotel ...

My husband and I planned this once-in-a-lifetime trip. We were not disappointed! Great service by staff and wonderful ports of call. Viking does an excellent job of attending to each person’s needs. Whereas on huge cruise ships where one can feel lost in the crowd, on a smaller ship such as Viking, they give personalized service. Excellent choices for food and beverage. Rooms and public areas are ...

We wanted to see Australia and New Zealand. The food was amazing. We loved The Chef's Table. We ate there 4 times in 2 weeks. Manfredi's was okay, but not our favorite. Most people on the ship disagreed. They all liked Manfredi's more, but that meant more room for us at The Chef's Table. The Restaurant was good. The buffet was good. The wine glass was never empty. Wish we could have had Gelato ...

Excellent cruise from Sydney to Bali

Review for a Trans-Ocean Cruise on Viking Orion

My wife and I chose this cruise because it visited many of the locations in Australia that we had not visited before, plus we really looked forward to the Komodo dragon visits. The on shore organization was extremely good, professional and friendly. The initial check in process for quick. It was annoying that various pre-trip activities documented by Viking for Australia and Bali were not ...

This was our first Viking cruise of any type (ocean in this case). Embarkation was very frustrating. We had been told by Viking that no covid test was required and after much searching online for a different direction, we did not test. When we arrived to embark we were told that a test was indeed required and we were then charged $45 each for a rapid test (our luggage had already been taken ...
