023 Scenic Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam
DEPARTURE DATE 25/9/2023
COMMENTS.
My wife and I have recently returned from completing the tour above and offer the following thoughts your consideration.
We completed our first ever river cruise in 2022 with Emerald, going from Amsterdam to Budapest. We enjoyed it very much and therefore decided to cruise again. This year the date of a ...
This was a nostalgic visit to places we had already visited and were familiar with. The cruise was sold to us as being of superior quality, but at a fantastic price.
On two evenings at dinner our order was taken quite quickly, but we waited more than an hour and half to receive our main course. I indicated the problem to the hotel manager, Bogdan, on the first occasion, but the situation was ...
This was our first cruise with Scenic, having been influenced by their claim to provide “Luxury cruising” and wishing to enjoy a little more pampering. Not being wedded to any cruise line in particular, I do feel able to make comparisons with other companies, so let’s get started:
BOOKING
Booking our cruise was quick and easy. No surprise there, it’s always easier to gain attention when ...
We chose this cruise based on the marketing done by scenic and had expectations of a five star luxury cruise. This was not the case, the air conditioning on the ship was inconsistent in the lounge and the bar service was slow with inattentive servers. The first time we called our “butler”, there was no answer. Apparently, they are also waiters and thus not always readily available.
The ...
We booked this on our travel agents recommendation, as we told her that we wanted a 5+ star experience and the best ship/company.
Also, this was our first river cruise. We've done about a dozen ocean cruises on various lines.
Needless to say we were quite disappointed. Overall the staff on board was great. Super friendly, accommodating and tried really hard.
The ship itself is old, ...
We did a European river boat cruise with Scenic. With river cruises you need to be aware that if river levels are either to high or to low your cruise may become a bus tour. We were very fortunate that we were able to go all the way from Budapest to Amsterdam. The ports we came to were all beautiful and full of history. Our ships cruise director did a wonderful job. Scenic gears there ...
We chose this cruise because we wanted to do a Rhine cruise, due to advertising and based on recommendations from the travel agency. Embarkation went smoothly and the cabin was comfortable in every respect. However, while we had been informed that we could be moored next to other cruise ships and there would be passengers crossing our ship to get on and off board, we were not told that about 1/3 ...
Dear turner valley,
Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear that you found the dining disappointing and also the lack of privacy and views from your balcony when docked. Due to...
We chose this cruise because Scenic had reputation for being very high end and truly all inclusive. It lived up to the all inclusive. The trip actually sailed on July 17, 2017. We were supposed to sail on the Jade but due to low water levels this ship was substituted. The ship was tired looking and needed a refresh. The carpet in our cabin was frayed and coming up.
The gourmet food was anything ...
The fantastic TV advertising sucked us in.
The Double Tree Hilton in Amsterdam --- the recommended hotel by Scenic, was too expensive for what it offered. Look around & find one which will give you better value for money.
Don't fall for the butler service & bar fridge in cabin gimmicks. The bar fridge sounds good but you can be served drinks at any time on the ship. We didn't have one drink ...
Dear Wilains,
Thank you for your review and I am very sorry to hear that this was not the five star luxury cruise you were expecting. The evening meals you described does not sound like the...
Cruise chosen to see towns which would not otherwise be visited. The day tours were not run for the benefit of cruisers. They were often too short, almost as if Scenic really didn't want to run and pay for them. They often left people for long hours waiting for transport, or having to walk long distances to get back to a transport point. A longer tour would have given the cruisers a much ...
