That was our first cruise for 11 nights. We loved it, service, food, entertainment incredible. We had our 20th Anniversary at the Pinnacle on the night that it featured that great American Establishment, Sirio Maccioni's legendary New York Restaurant "An Evening at le Cirque" with a change to its wine list and table decorations, photos of the ( Rat Pack) Stars and the menu serving Lobster ...

Great cruise, but how did public rooms make the top 10 list?

We took this Med cruise after a tour of Italy in order to see more places, and we definitely did the right thing. The food was wonderful, service was great, and the shore excursions were spectacular - BUT - this is the darkest, dreariest ship that we have ever been on (and it was our 10th across 5 cruise lines). Where are the public rooms? The "atrium" area at the bottom of the main staircase had ...

I'm a big cruiser and I had only been on Holland one other time. I've been told that it's wonderful and step above. Know I have my own opinion and let me tell you I was VERY disappointed. I loved the cruise, the ports and traveling with friends. This ship has a BIG problem with the dinning room staff being trained. I can't remember one meal in which all courses came hot. How would you like your ...

First off, I gave HAL the benefit of the doubt and gave them 2 months to respond to my email, to no avail all they wanted to do was to sell me another cruise. Below are all the bad things that happened: ... no acknowledgement of the birthdays and anniversary we were celebrating. ... everything was an add-on or up-sale. .... the food was awful every day, food at sub standard temperatures, poor ...

Dark, dull and dreary

We chose this cruise as transportation and lodging for visits to Livorno, Monaco, Tunisia, Sicily, and Naples. In that aspect, it was very good. As a cruise ship for comfortable open spaces, people watching, and relaxation, it misses the boat (no pun intended) completely. I completely agree with GrannyJKP - it looks like the 70's, is dark and dreary. It was clean, but the carpets worn. There is no ...

First experience with Holland

.. but for sure not the last. We chose HAL due to time constraints - our travel partners needed to go earlier in 2014 than we planned. It turned out to be no problem and we were told we beat some of the larger crowds that show up later. This was our 9th cruise overall. We have tried Princess, RC, Carnival, and NCL . When not traveling with our family, we enjoy Princess, but the kids and grand ...

Nice, pleasant - but not spectacular

We took the April 22, 2014 19 day "Explorer" cruise, which was 7 day Rome to Rome and 12 day Rome to Copenhagen back-to-back combined cruises. It was my 14th cruise (including 2 river cruises) and our 6th on Holland America. I have read several of the previous reviews, and I'm (surprisingly) not as negative as the other posters - but not enthusiastically wild about it either. The good: Cabin: ...

Subpar for HAL

We just took the 7 day Mediterranean Glamour Cruise, which was a disappointment. This was my 4th HAL cruise, and I don't know if I'd cruise with them again. Within 5 minutes on board, I noticed what I perceived to be significant wear and tear on the overall condition; I was shocked to hear this ship is only a few years old. I was certain it was ready for a significant update. The decor seemed ...

Disappointed with Holland America

All I have ever heard is how great Holland America is. Well it looks like I hit the wrong ship or just the wrong time. Don't get me wrong many things were great and I still had a wonderful vacation traveling with a group of friends. Main problems were the dinning room and the food. Out of the 16 nights in the dining room I ate 12 meals. I can't think of one night everything was good. If it wasn't ...

Embarkation: Fast and efficient. Cabin was ready and cases arrived quickly. Only downside, Boarding started at 12:00noon according to sign and we boarded about 12:45, went straight to MDR for Mariner Lunch but doors were closed. They served 12:00 - 1:00 pm!!Cabin: Standard balcony cabin on Rotterdam Deck. Cabin was clean and steward was efficient and attentive throughout the cruise.Dining: Despite ...
