The 32-passenger Evolution is one of two vessels operated by Quasar Expeditions, which provides small expert-led small group tours to South America. The classic looking twin-masted ship sails in the Galapagos archipelago with the line's16-passenger yacht Grace, offering guests two different styles of sailing to discover the region's world-famous wildlife.

Evolution Deck Plans Offer a Range of Flexible Cabins

Launched in 2005 and refurbished in 2017, the comfortable Evolution is geared towards families, couples, seniors and solos who all share a curiosity to discover the unique nature of the Galapagos Islands. The four-deck 32-passenger expedition yacht has four air-conditioned deluxe staterooms, nine premium staterooms and three suites.

The four deluxe staterooms are situated on the lower Darwin deck and range from 161 to 200 square feet. The largest has a fixed king bed and there is also a cabin with a fixed queen-size bed. The remaining two have twin beds. All these accommodations have porthole windows.

On the next level up, the Cormorant deck, are the premium staterooms which are from 140 to 198 square feet and also have portholes. These also offer flexible sleeping arrangements with a choice of cabins with fixed queen beds and others that can be arranged as twins or in a king-size bed configuration.

The suites can be found on the uppermost Albatross deck and they all have windows. There is a 194-square-foot twin or king-bedded suite and a 202-square-foot suite with a fixed queen-size bed. The Master Suite is the largest cabin on the yacht, measuring 263 square feet, and has a king bed, sitting area, desk and large windows on both sides.

All of the cabins and bathrooms are decorated in sophisticated and muted shades with light wood finishes. The furnishings include hand-crafted items made by artisans in Ecuador and novel touches include daily towel art created by room stewards.

The main public areas are located on the Beagle deck, between the Cormorant and Albatross decks. They include an inside lounge which is also used for lectures and briefings, a coffee station, shop, reception desk and the dining room, with indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all buffets. There is also a sunbathing area and hot tub. On the Albatross deck there is an outdoor lounging space and bar. All the decks are connected by stairs and the ship does not have an elevator.

Daily excursions are led by naturalists and include opportunities to swim, snorkel and kayak. During family cruises there are activities such as stargazing, age appropriate movies and board games, plus child-oriented guides provide tailored learning activities such as keeping expedition journals. Children's menus are provided during family cruises.

Notably, Evolution has a medical center and onboard doctor.

Evolution Offers Three Galapagos Itineraries

In line with Quasar's smaller yacht Grace, the Evolution also sails on three itineraries in the Galapagos. Two seven-night sailings, In the Steps of Pirates & Darwin and Footsteps Back in Time, cover different areas of the archipelago and the 14-night Darwin's Legacy itinerary combines both itineraries.

Evolution Stats

The vessel measures 192 feet and carries 32 passengers at full capacity with 21 crew members.

An Amazing Experience in the Galapagos!

Paul explained that the Evolution rode better in the seas versus the Grace, and with my wife's penchant for getting sea sick, we opted for the Evolution. The experience was exceptional!Read More
