The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

First time cruising, last time with NCL

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Norwegian Gem

My mom, a Florida resident, wanted to see the fall foliage and thought a cruise through Canada and New England would be a good way to do it. That said, we saw the most foliage in Quebec City, which is a beautiful town; in Port Charlotte, also very nice; and on a shore excursion to Lunenberg (from Halifax). As for watching the foliage from our balcony on the ship... the weather wasn't good and we ...

I wanted to see Canada during colorful Fall weather and I was NOT disappointed. Love that we have graduated to suite category now. Butler and Concierge are really nice touches. Was not as impressed with Teppanyaki chefs as I have been on other ships. Although the food was good, their flare was not impressive.. Cagney's Steakhouse was great. Moderno Brazillian Steakhouse was not great ...

Excellent cruise for a Canada visit, but be aware of fall weather impact

This cruise option had the best port schedule for a Canada cruise. Disappointed that Portland Maine port was cancelled. Day at sea as a result was very rough. Room was terrific, as was our steward. Enjoyed Norwegian's flexible meal schedule options, did not miss having an assigned waitstaff. Ship layout was easy to follow after the first few days. Spa and spa services were terrific. Liked ...

Never again will I travel with Norwegian Cruise Line

We chose this cruise to see the Fall colours in Canada. This was our first cruise with NCL and we had no reason to be biased. We travelled with 3 other couple, one of whom had traveled on a NCL ship before and told us they enjoyed the cruise around the Hawaiian Islands and the food was good. Our experience was just the opposite. It began well but my wife ate some food, probably a salad on the ...

Food was dull and uninspired.

Food lacked seasoning but there was salt on every table. It was basically the same for the entire week. Desserts were especially boring. Cabin lacked maintenance but was clean. And why the hangers with the ball on the top - who steals hangers? Especially difficult to use when ship was rocking. A couple of the shows were very good - dancing and singing by the crew members. The magician did, ...

If you're used to Celebrity or better, do not go on Norwegian

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Norwegian Gem

If you're used to spending your holidays in the hands of Celebrity or better cruise lines, I would not recommend you try Norwegian because you'll be disappointed several times per hour. Their processes are efficient and streamlined, but the quality of everything on board is rather poor. We found it took us more than half hour to find a place to sit in the garden cafe since the weather wasn't ...

Formulaic Food - lost in translation

After witnessing how badly passengers were treated on the recent NCL Spririt Mystical Fjords Cruise, With an appalling 25% discount on a future cruise, it has become obvious NCL sees customers only as livestock. Ship is old(2005), refurb in 2015. Jewel class ships now look worn and dated. The lack of amenities compared with the newer Breakaway/Bliss class of ships is very evident. The ...

NCL: I Won’t Be Back

I am an experienced cruiser having sailed at least 20 times in Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean, and Canada/New England. Most of my experience has been with Celebrity, which I love, but I have also cruised with Princes, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Holland America. This was my first cruise on Norwegian and I will not be back. Here is why. The drinking water policy on the ship is obviously ...

Great value I had a great time and would definitely do it again. The ports were well chosen, just the time at the ports could be longer. It was sometimes a little bit rushy. The food onboard is great, a final cake walk would be great, and thr prizes at the specialty restaurants are too high.the food there is great though. Overall, there is a good chance beeing again onboard ...

Good ship, Great crew, Nice Itinerary

This was a retirement gift to myself. I took my husband along. We are platinum on NCL so I chose Sail Away balcony without the perks and it worked out just fine for this 7 day cruise. We get two specialty dinners and WiFi minutes. We never drink enough to justify a drink package and usually arrange for shore excursions on our own. My favorite parts of the ship are the Spinnaker Lounge with ...
