I went along on this cruise with my mother and her partner, not expecting a lot. I'd heard about the big ocean cruises which are like crowded, floating malls full of drunk people, and a million a la carte expenses: taking a cruise sounded like the last thing I'd ever want to do. Overall we had an enjoyable Danube river cruise, from Passau to Budapest, with a 3 day pre cruise stop in Prague. Danube water levels were fine and we had no issues going through the locks. This was our first River Cruise and one has to remember it's very different from the large liners which we're used to! Cabins smaller, but adequately furnished with well stocked toiletries in the bathroom. This was our first cruise with Viking and we truly had no idea how it operated. However, soon after landing in Budapest, after a cancelled flight, and the young lady that met us at the gate relieved our worst fears. The Hotels we stayed in were beautiful and the food delicious.

I was extremely disappointed with this trip and it was # 1 on my bucket list for many years. Viking knew that the Danube was getting lower and lower by the day due to a severe drought. This is our 2nd Viking river cruise so we had very high expectations.
Viking can not help that the river was low but there should have been advanced warnings.
The staff did their best to accommodate for this inconvenience.
