Panama Canal and south America
"Two days in Lima was also very good although it was strange how getting off the ship required a 20 minute shuttle ride to a plaza further away from the main city than where the ship was docked - but ubers were cheap so it was only the time factor that was a bit annoying.* South American ports aren't as busy with other cruise traffic, but that can also mean that there is less organised activity you can book on-shore * Uber was a relatively cheap and practical way to get around, and took the guesswork out of negotiating fares with taxi drivers or other private operators * Mobile coverage and data was sometimes a bit patchy on-shore - weirdly it was places like Santiago and Lima where it was less reliable * NCL didn't seem to care too much about the on-shore experience for those not on one of their official excursions - and there weren't even many of those that you could book * The Sun is showing its age and I wonder just how many more years she's got in the fleet...."Read More

A bad experience

We took a 16-day cruise from Buenos Aires with the Norwegian Sun in February 2024. We chose it based on the itinerary and the company's good references. The itinerary was good. The problem was the ship: When we arrived the cabin smelled of cigarettes and bathroom. At night we noticed that there was an unbearable noise coming from the air conditioning. On the second night when we entered ...

I’ve cruised with NCL several times in the past, most often with Celebrity so I have some recent experience to base my review. Overall, Cebebrity outperforms NCL. The cruise was good overall but a few details left us disappointed. Most foremost was the food. It just fell flat, both in the dining room and buffet. Normally we don’t choose premium dining because we are fairly satisfied with the ...

Norwegian Sun 17 Night Panama Canal and South America

We chose this trip because of the ship and the itinerary. We prefer the small ships because they have a more personal and intimate feel to them compared to the big ships like the Bliss, Epic, Encore etc. The entire cruise experience was great. We had a balcony stateroom and it was very spacious and comfortable. Yes, the ship is older so the room does show some wear and tear but it was very ...

This was the second time we'd sailed on the Norwegian Sun but we enjoyed the first time more and noticed some subtle changes which had made the cruise more expensive. We like the ship because it is smaller with 2,000 guests. The State Rooms, the Dining, the Bars and the Entertainment were all excellent. The Service in some departments however left plenty of room to improve particularly around ...

We chose this cruise because of the canal transit and the South American itinerary. A week or so out there was a change to the itinerary, dropping the first stop in Colombia (Santa Marta), changing Panama City to Colón, and adding an extra day in Lima. I haven't seen an explanation for the change, and while the extra day in Lima instead of Santa Marta was a decent trade, Colón for Panama City ...

A SHIP TO AVOID

The crew were excellent. Most of the entertainment in the theatre were your dancers and singers Most cruise lines are reducing the levels of service and amenities provided. NCL has taken this to the extreme. There are no toiletries; no bath gowns; no chocolate on the pillow at turn-down. In fact they have no turn-down service at all. Dirty towels remain on the floor until the next day (often the ...

This was a 18 night South America Cruise from Santiago Chile to Miami, FL. We choose this cruise based on the itinerary. The ship is old...built in 2001 and refurbished in 2018. Our Cabin was a Vista View Junior Suite on Deck #10 (0067)...on the very back of the ship. The size of the balcony was average. This balcony provided an excellent view for the Panama Canal crowding. The Junior Suite ...

An Excellent Cruising Experience for a First Time Norwegian Cruiser

I wanted to cruise the Panama Canal and this trip was available at a suitable time. Life aboard ship was excellent as we were made to feel like part of the Norwegian family. The dining experience was superb but all the staff made us feel comfortable in their home. I enjoyed having a choice of cheeseburgers or pizza for lunch. I am a bridge player and was very pleased to find that Norwegian had ...

1.Excursions were poor: a. One poor English-speaking guide without a microphone for 40 people If your in the back of the bus you hear nothing. b. Excursions were not as advertised. I paid over $260 to go to an island to get pictures of South American birds but we never got on the island we were to go to and I feel very cheated. c. The setup for boarding excursions is poorly ...

I booked the Sun cruise just two weeks before flying to Santiago, Chile to start this unique, fabulous memory 16 day cruise. I was also leaving the next day to fly to LAS from FL for a couple of days and then on to LAX to go on the NCL Star for a 8 day Mexican Riviera cruise, so I only had 5 days at home between these two fabulous cruises. Both of these cruises were enhanced with perfect ...
