(2 p.m. EDT) -- A "Family Feud" gameshow activity and a new-to-the-line suite category that includes access to an exclusive enclave are the latest features to be revealed by Carnival Cruise Line for its new ship, Mardi Gras, slated to launch in summer 2020.
Family Feud Live
During a press conference held at the 35th annual Seatrade cruise conference in Miami, Carnival staged the gameshow -- where participants included Cruise Critic Editor in Chief Colleen McDaniel -- to offer a glimpse of how the at-sea version, dubbed "Family Feud Live," will work. On the first sea day, passengers will have multiple opportunities to compete for the chance to participate in live gameshows, which will take place later on in the cruise.
Ultimately, two five-person teams will be chosen to face off in the final rounds -- which will be offered in various themes, such as adults-only and family-friendly -- in an attempt to win a variety of prizes. More details on how the gameshow will work, as well as the prizes, will be announced at a later date. The activity is a product of Carnival's new partnership with Fremantle, the parent company of the official "Family Feud" TV gameshow.
"Carnival Cruise Line is all about fun, family and friends just like 'Family Feud,'" said Carnival's president, Christine Duffy. "As we continue to build Mardi Gras' diverse entertainment lineup, we are excited about offering this iconic game show onboard and involving our guests in a great new way to Choose Fun."

Carnival Excel and Loft 19
Additionally, Carnival revealed details of the line's new top-tier suite category -- Carnival Excel suites -- which will include access to an exclusive enclave called Loft 19. Perched on Mardi Gras' highest deck, Loft 19 will include a full-service bar and a pool surrounded by lounge chairs and cabanas available for rent. The cabanas will be fully stocked with beverages, robes, chilled towels, fresh fruit and lunch delivery, among other perks.
The Carnival Excel category will include 32 suites, spread out among four different subcategories: Carnival Excel Presidential Suites, Carnival Excel Aft Suites, Carnival Excel Corner Suites and Carnival Excel Suites.
Below is a breakdown of the categories.
Carnival Excel Presidential Suite: Mardi Gras will have two Presidential Suites, marking the largest suites in the fleet. Situated on Deck 17, they will feature spacious living/dining rooms and bedrooms, as well as the most expansive balconies on any Carnival ship -- each with an outdoor hot tub and shower. Passengers staying in these suites are also granted access to the spa's thermal suite and the Havana pool area.
Carnival Excel Aft Suite: These 12 suites will overlook Summer Landing, the ship's backyard barbeque-style space -- one of six previously announced themed "zones" -- and feature separate living rooms and bedrooms, as well as large wraparound balconies, each with an outdoor hot tub and space for alfresco dining and relaxing.
Carnival Excel Corner Suite: Available on both the port and starboard sides of the ship, each of these 12 suites will boast a separate bedroom and living room, a wet bar and a wraparound balcony with lounging and dining areas.
Carnival Excel Suite: Six suites on Decks 10, 11 and 12will offer spacious bedrooms, dining and relaxing areas, and balconies.
Design-wise, the suites will feature many of the same innovative elements Carnival outlined in March 2019, including floor-to-ceiling windows, quick-flip sleeper sofas, ample storage space, roomy bathrooms with glass shower doors, and an abundance of USB ports and outlets.
In addition to Loft 19 access, Carnival Excel suite passengers will receive the following perks: a dedicated concierge phone line; priority embarkation and disembarkation; guaranteed specialty dining times (with the exception of Bonsai Teppanyaki and the Chef's Table); a complimentary Bottomless Bubbles soda package, room service and laundry; sparkling wine and fresh fruit upon arrival; and upgraded bathroom amenities.
Other Mardi Gras suite categories will include Ocean Suites, Havana Suites, Family Harbor Suites and Cloud 9 Spa Suites, similar to those found on other ships.
Mardi Gras is scheduled to enter service on August 31, 2020 in Europe before repositioning to New York and eventually Port Canaveral for year-round seven-night Caribbean cruises beginning in October 2020.
