(11:30 a.m. EDT) -- When Carnival's Mardi Gras cruise ship launches in summer 2020, it will unveil the line's most innovative cabin design yet, with standout features such as quick-flip sleeper sofas, floor-to-ceiling glass balcony doors and hidden storage spaces.

The line today revealed it has teamed up with DCA Design International, an England-based product design firm, on what it describes as ergonomically-friendly cabins -- of which more than 70 percent will feature an ocean view or balcony.

"We took a unique approach to our stateroom design with Mardi Gras, utilizing DCA’s design experts who are well known for innovative product design and partnered them with Miami-based interior architect Studio Dado," said Carnival’s senior vice president of new builds, Ben Clement.

"DCA employed a thoughtful guest-centric approach gleaned from observations of how our guests use their space in conjunction with their vast experience in product design to make the staterooms as comfortable and functional as possible."

Below is a breakdown of Mardi Gras' cabin features:

  • Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors on nearly all balconies for easier access
  • Sofas that "flip" into a twin-sized bed
  • An abundance of outlets and USB ports, both on the vanity and bedside
  • More storage space, including inside foot stools
  • Clear glass doors on mini-fridges
  • Flexible bedside reading lamps
  • Larger, customizable wardrobes with pull-out bins and folding shelves
  • Spacious bathrooms with glass shower doors and an in-shower shaving bar

Among Mardi Gras' accommodations will be tropical-themed Havana cabins and Family Harbor staterooms -- both found on Carnival's Vista-class ships -- as well as the line's popular Cloud 9 Spa staterooms. Mardi Gras also will offer the most suites of any Carnival ship, with more than 180 spread out among different categories.

Other Mardi Gras highlights include a new Creole restaurant developed by Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse, the first-ever roller coaster at sea, and six themed "zones" offering a variety of dining and entertainment.

During its inaugural season, which is now open for booking, Mardi Gras will take cruisers to Europe, Canada and New England and the Caribbean; it eventually will be based in Port Canaveral (most commonly associated with Orlando) full-time.
