Beautiful ship, great cabin & restaurant service, deplorable response to delay

Last year I started looking for a trip to Antarctica to fulfill a goal of visiting all 7 continents. When I contacted my travel agent about a Viking Expedition she suggested I try Atlas because of the small ship and special pricing being offered. I took her suggestion. While I loved what I saw of Antarctica, I regretted the decision to book with Atlas. My friend and I arrived a few days early ...

We booked the premium suite and every material item on the cruise ship is nice. Fixtures are well appointed, bed is wide and comfortable, service is top notch and excellent, expedition guides are super knowledgeable and friendly. So why the poor review? 1) The Captain made the decision to cut the last day of expedition and return to port early despite claiming rough seas except the day we ...

We were not able to visit or land in many of the planned destinations because of the Avian Flu, which was not mentioned at all until the trip was booked and paid for. We only spent 2 days at the peninsula which is truly disappointing considering most days are spent at sea and the peninsula being the main event. The staff explained how more days at the peninsula is physically impossible due to ...

Shockingly bad service... surprised by the good reviews

I’m honestly surprised by the strong reviews here. I found the service, food, and drink to all be extremely lacking. I've been on 20+ cruises in my life, and the service on this ship was the absolute worst. In particular, if you are someone with food allergies or sensitivities, I really recommend you do not go on this ship. That isn’t to say that there aren’t some positives - mainly the ...

The trip of a lifetime they said! Don’t miss South Georgia they said. Well… it was definitely an adventure. We embarked on the 19 day cruise to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and Antarctica, planned to travel in that order. The first couple days were at sea and uneventful. The food was fine, the drinks were reasonably priced, and the 24x7 espresso machine was awesome. Our first ...

Antarctic cruise - disappointing expedition

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Viking Polaris

We cruise a lot including river cruises, world cruises, expedition cruises and bareboat charters. For years we have heard from fellow cruisers that an Antarctica expedition was one of their most enjoyable cruises. Unfortunately, we did not have that experience and would not recommend Viking Expeditions. The travel and transfers were extremely uncoordinated, confusing and overall very ill ...

Great luxury cruise but a BUST as an expedition!

Great luxury cruise with beautiful scenery and penguins BUT a disappointment as an expedition. We did not get what we paid for which was 7 days of multiple water craft experiences and landings in Antarctica. Spent two extra days in Ushuaia waiting for smooth water to cross the Drake Passage. That reduced the expedition days to down to 5. Spent two 6.5 hour days on bus tours around Ushuaia. OK, ...

Antarctic Expedition great but avoid Viking Air at all costs.

The Viking Air Department is horrible and should be avoided. The Air Department lies, randomly and without notice changes itineraries, ignores stated flight preferences, and becomes punitive if you challenge them. We assured by a Viking representative that we would have our choice of available partner airlines for our December 15-29 Viking Polaris expedition to the Antarctic if we purchased ...

For a "luxury" cruise this works, for an "expedition" cruise skip this one!

We chose this cruise because it visited both the Antarctic peninsula and South Georgia. I had been to the Antarctic peninsula before on another cruise line, but wanted to be able to share the experience with my wife. The main reason we picked this ship was because it visited our priority destinations and did not require the Covid vaccinations. The ship itself was excellent and the service ...

Our flight to South America was changed 4 times the last one week before we left, and the date was changed. Good thing we are retired. Viking packing list ignore, taped all that out yes three layers but only one hat and one set of gloves. Laundry on ship was easy to use. Yes they have two submarines, don’t plan on getting on them. People who had reservations prior to departure were told too bad ...
