This is one of the most beautiful islands on the planet, and very crowded in the summer. Visit here in May or September for best chance to avoid crowds. Also, this is a tender port, so I recommend you book the ship's excursion to avoid the line for the gondola. The excursion puts you on a bus that bypasses the gondola on the way up. Leave time for lunch on the island. Any of the restaurants with a ...

Empty when you are the only ship in town, or chaos when three ships at tender. Oia can be easily done on the local bus. Akrotiri is well worth a visit on the local bus, for the sheer scale of the archaeological site (all under a roof) ...

I am torn on this port, loved the Island, hated the tender which took forever and the donkey way which was slippery even when not raining. Also stinks when you walk the stairs. ...

Simply stunning. Taking pictures in Oia at sunset was unforgettable. We had an excellent guide and saw many, many beautiful houses and churches there. Santorini is one place I want to return to for a land-based vacation. It's just breathtaking. ...

If I could give half a star I would. I think all excursions are dependent on the guide. This port is extremely steep. If you’re not physically fit. Don’t go. The guide thought that we should be mountain goats. I’m not. If you are not either you will be left to find your own way back at your expense. ...

We visited Santorini when there were 4 cruise ships in port. As I had read, when the port at Fira is busy you can expect long lines for the cable car. I followed the suggestion to take a water taxi to Oia and it worked out well. The port area was so busy, it was hard to tell if people were in line for the cable car or something else, or if they were just lost trying to find their way around. I ...
