Lifou is a beautiful island accessed by tender boats. It's very hot so take water with you and money for drink (coconut or soft drinks available). They take AUS$ and NC Franc. Try to travel light or with a backpack. You may do a bit of walking if you choose to visit the church on the hill (worth it for the view and the butterflies) or Jinek Bay.

this is a beautiful spot and if you have the energy ( you need to do it once in your lifetime) take the walk up to the church on the cliff top - along a bitumen road for around 500 metres and then up the side of the hill - bit rough walking but there is a handrail - remember to take some water and just stop along the way for a rest - the view at the top is fabulous and it makes you wonder how did ...
