Visited the new cathedral which is very lovely and hosts interdenominational services. The "old church" - the only surviving building in Alta which was not burned down by the Nazis- is also worth a visit. It is not used for services anymore, but still hosts special events such as weddings. The World Heritage Rock Art Centre is a very nice museum to visit, and during the summer, you will able to go ...

There was not much going on in Alta. We hit all of the high points and they were great but after that there were malls and eating establishments. We choose not to purchase any expensive optional tours. We visited the Laksens hus and it was very interesting as it was educational about the salmon industry. It was very interactive, and free. ...

Definitely nothing to see in the city center. Shuttle was a little expense for $20 USD. It was a tender port. I dislike tenders but they were well organized. We did an independent Chasing the Northern Lights Tour with Glod Explorer. Saw nothing and froze but the experience was fun. On our send day, the ship ported overnight, we again book independently with Glod to hike the Alta Canyon. ...

We had to tender, but was no biggy. We went to the Tourist shop to figure out what to do. Definitely visit the Cathedral and pay to see the show they offer in the basement about the Northern Lights. Other than that, not much to do. ...

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Norwegian Star

In Alta everyone goes to Knordcapp or North Cape. It's about a twenty minute drive from Alta. North Cape is famous because it's the northern most point in Europe and lots of famous people went there. It's a big plateau that looks out over the ocean. The scenery on the way to North Cape was better than the cape. Very green with lots of reindeer. Alta had some nice shops and a pretty harbor. You can ...
