We just returned from a 7 night cruise that left out of New Orleans on St. Patrick's day. First and foremost, New Orleans is an amazing port to leave and return to! There is so much to do in the city and so many places to visit! I highly recommend the excursion offered at the end of the cruise. It is a city tour of New Orleans and very much worth the money to do! Actually, it is cheaper than booking a taxi to the airport and they drop you off there when finished.
Anyways, we booked on the Voyager of the Seas and had a fantastic time. We had a balcony cabin (7348). We took the Voyager due to its location and the cost of airfare. New Orleans was much cheaper than any port in Florida so we made our decision based on money. This was worrysome prior to leaving but we quickly realized we had mad a great decision.
Embarkation was simple and fast. Royal Caribbean really has this down. If you are crown and anchor members check your seapass before check in. If there is a small G you do not have to wait in the regular line. There is a much quicker line for returning guests.
