Sail Date: Sep 2021

We were wary of returning to cruising as it is a very different world to our last cruise in December 2019 but we came home, having thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and having felt safe throughout the 11 daýs - so much so that we have booked another cruise for December. You could ask for nothing more, from Fred Olsen, to reassure you over Covid protocols. We can all find faults and claim to have had better (and, yes, we have sailed with top lines in the past), but being able to sail from Liverpool, UK with a reasonable drive (for us, similar to driving to Southampton) then non-crowded, extremely well-organised embarkation with smiling friendly staff made us feel relaxed immediately. More than acceptable, but not outstanding, wine in the drinks package; generally very good food choice and quality ingredients, with some of the best ice cream I've had at sea; generally attentive and smiling service in restaurant, in what are still difficult times. Our names were known almost immediately by restaurant staff and in the bars/lounges we frequented. For us, speed of service was spot on - neither slow nor rushed. Specialty dining is fantastic considering the cover charge (only £5.00 in 'Colours and Tastes' and free, yes free, in ' Vasco's'). 'Colours and Tastes' does feel like a special restaurant and, again, can you believe they change the menu every 3 days! This is unlike Oceania, who have the same menu year after year. Daily activities/ evening entertainment was comprehensive, well-organised and appeared well received by everyone. Mask wearing, which was of concern to us, was neither restrictive nor onerous, and was adhered to by all. The only negative comment applies to the disembarkation process once luggage was collected, which was a complete shambles, but we survived it! We were extremely hesitant about resuming cruising but came away fully reassured. Hopefully this review helps.
