We were the only passengers from New Orleans on the cruise up the Mississippi. Even though we had to get to Jackson MS instead of being picked up in New Orleans (hurricane Ida got there first) the trip was exceptional in all respects. American decided to make all excursions (except Graceland and one other) no cost a nice gesture given the mess in getting everyone to the boat.

The 21 days it took to get to Minnesota were never boring. Wonderful and varied entertainment, great food well prepared and a well-trained and very solicitous crew. The Mississippi is really three different rivers — ocean-going vessels from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, only barge traffic from Baton Rouge to Saint Louis, and then a recreational river once you get upriver from the locks and dams above Saint Louis. Surprising to see pleasure boats, wave runners, and small fishing boats on the lake-like stretches of the river above the dams and locks.

Shore excursions were almost uniformly interesting and educational. The real stars for us were the cruise director and her associates who made everything flow smoothly. And almost everyone on board observed the mask requirement when in public spaces.

Cabin Review

The best ever. Very spacious and well appointed
