Iceland was rated a Stage 3 country right before we left for the cruise. We had Covid tests within 72 hrs of departure. We were tested daily and restricted from going off on our own. We wore masks in the public areas of the ship, on buses, and any time (which was rare) that we were indoors. We wore contact tracing lanyards everywhere we went. There were reminders of handwashing and sanitizing before going into the World Cafe and food was served, not self-served. We felt very safe.

The downside was that, because we were restricted from going off on our own, we saw very little of Reykjavik and its surrounds. We really could have used one more day there. The first half of the cruise was great. Outstanding scenery, good guides, etc. Then, we went into ports where the towns were tiny and there wasn't much new to see. It was interesting to see how village life in Iceland played out, though For our last stop, we were not able to go to Heimsaey due to the tenders not being able to handle the seas. How can our lifeboats not handle the seas? Anyway, so we ended up spending our last day at sea, which was a big let down. They did offer a panorama bus tour of Reykjavik that evening as a consolation prize.

So, first half great. Second half, not so great.

Cabin Review

Roomy. Good storage. Heated bathroom floors. Electricity in the room goes on when you slide a card in the slot. Most people use their room key and, when they leave the room with their room key, the electricity goes off.

Bring along an old library or credit card to stick in the slot so that your electronics will charge when you are out of the room. Very quiet rooms. Comfy beds and pillows. Lots of outlets with USB ports.
