Wow! Best word that I can use to describe our wonderful trip aboard one American Cruise Lines newest ships, the American Harmony, as we sailed along the Columbia & Snake rivers during the middle of June this year. This eight day/seven night cruise along the same route of the famous Louis & Clark expedition of the early 1800's, exceeded all of our expectations regarding river cruising. Departing from a pre-cruise Hotel stay in Jantzen Island, a short ride from Portland Airport, we were met by an enthusiastic crew welcoming us aboard to an adventure of beautiful wilderness to see along the rivers, magnificent shore excursions such as Mount St. Helens, Multnomah Falls, a thrilling Hell's Canyon Jetboat ride, and even a swim the Columbia River at one of the beautiful parks along the way as we cruised westward to Clarkston, Washington. Due to Covid precautions, the ship's passenger capacity was limited to 75% occupancy, which gave us special direct access to all the ship's onboard enrichment programs, daily lectures, and evening entertainment. Additionally, prior to boarding the ship, all passengers were Covid tested and had to provide proof of vaccination. Aboard ship, ACL had a medical person available if needed. The pre-dinner cocktail hour had enough hors d'oeuvres that tried to spoil our appetite for the wonderful that we enjoyed nightly. The American Harmony, a new ship, was clean and spacious with a beautiful atrium stairway, a top deck filled with spatially separated lounging area, and a five -hole putting green, which our friend and I utilized nightly for jour nightly pitting contests. We invited a group of friends to join us on this strip, and all of us are planning to cruise again next June along the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to visit the music cities of Memphis and Nashville. Cannot wait! Thank you, American Cruise Lines, for an unforgettable experience.
