Sail Date: May 2021

I chose this cruise because of American Cruise Lines excellent reputation for first class service. The cruise was very expensive; however, sailing in the US appealed to me for safety reasons during the pandemic. I had anticipated a cultural and educational experience; however it was very disappointing. The service was poor, i.e. 2 hours waiting for lunch service to complete. Dining room service was slow and clumsy. Wait staff were inexperienced and kitchen was short staffed. Housekeeping was minimal although passengers were assured of "enhanced" cleaning protocols. My balcony was not cleaned during the duration of the trip and on one occasion my room was missed entirely. Outdoor tables did not appear to be wiped down on a daily basis--they were smeared and sticky. Outdoor trash containers were overflowing. Communications were minimal and unclear. The entire experience did not live up to expectations. Crew offered excuses about post-covid problems, new hires and lack of training--passengers grew weary of excuses.

Food was very good. Staff were friendly. The captain and crew were professional and skilled. I felt safe at all times.

Local history, expert information about history, geology, forestry, fisheries, etc., would have enhanced the experience.

Cabin Review

My cabin was small but adequate. I found clothing belonging to previous occupant left in a drawer. Balcony was never wiped down or vacuumed.
