I don't understand why people are so afraid of cruises. Cruise ships are probably the safest places in the world. I wish all services ashore were so professional in terms of Covid prevention. Before boarding the ship, we had to do two tests, a PCR test in our country and a swab test at the terminal. Body temperature was measured before entering the terminal and on board the ship every day thereafter. We did another test on board before leaving the ship on the penultimate day of the cruise. The crew is extremely serious about wearing masks and disinfecting. Every day we saw teams disinfecting public areas of the ship, tables in bars and restaurants are thoroughly disinfected after each guest, QR codes menus are often used instead of the traditional ones.
On this last cruise, before the 3-week break due to the lockdown in Italy, there were only about 400 passengers on board, which means that there were more crew members than passengers. Although it is sad to say that the line probably loses more than it earns with such a load of passengers, from the passengers' point of view, there was plenty of space on the ship, there were no queues anywhere, the elevators were arriving immediately and the service was very fast. According to the safety protocols of the crew was always maintaing a professional distance, but when ons showed the willingness to talk, most of them were happy to start the conversation.
Due to the low number of passengers and Covid, the number of attractions was limited. There were only four theatre shows for the one-week cruise, only one for a day. Of course, big prties like the Voyagers Club Cocktail are not organized on these cruises. Still, there is quite a lot to do, most of the services are running, the pools are open and empty (which doesn't usually happen). The main as well as speciality restaurants operate as normal, offering very rich menus.
Cabin is a typical YC Deluxe. It is rather simply furnished, but spacious and comfortable. It was perfectly clean and disinfected. Probably, due to the need to maintain special standards of cleanliness in the pandemic time, there were no additional decorative cushions and bedspreads, which normally add coziness to the cabin. Except that, all amenities such as coffee machine, fresh fruit and daily snacks, minibar and bathroom amenities were available. I only still regret that on all new ships there are no more walk-in closets like on Fantasia class ships in the YC1 cabins.
