Pros: Greek itinerary, whole experience of leaving out of Venice was a dream, rock climbing staff, cruise director staff and shore excursion service were excellent, good port excursions, quality food, smooth sailing ship
Cons: Entertainment was horrible (people actively leaving shows bad) - Newly wed game was the highlight if that tells you anything, First cruise ever where restaurant service was awful (begging for drink refills, long waits for food, unable to get bar service), ship is a bit dated and found things broken or missing (no shampoo dispenser in one cabin), and duplicate & incorrect bar and onboard charges (charged twice for galley tour, drinks from another table on our account).
We anticipated a smaller ship with less amenities and entertainment options. However, we were so disappointed at the quality of the entertainment and the service in the dining rooms. As frequent cruisers it seemed that this was a ship where the least experienced wait staff and weakest performers/shows were assigned. The dining room wait staff were all pleasant, but constantly seemed overwhelmed or unsure of what to do. Some of the general service staff (pool towel attendants and deck staff) also seemed poorly trained and not experienced. Towels were not being Checked-in properly and the most people started verifying their towel balance was zero at every return, causing long lines. Definitely felt like a rookie crew in many areas.
Also disappointing was that the Mykonos stop could not be done due to high waves. Weather isn’t the fault of the ship, but inexperienced wait staff admitted they can’t do that port often so it wasn’t an uncommon thing. Seems like RC keeps it on itinerary to attract guests knowing it often can’t be done with tendering. Other ships from other lines were able to go same day because they docked instead of tendering. RC did substitute a back up port that was nice, but Mykonos was our top rated port choice and it was disappointing to find out they often can’t deliver that port while other lines can.
We’d do the itinerary again without hesitation, would love to leave out of Venice again, would try another smaller ship, but would not cruise on the Rhapsody of the Seas again. Such a great trip was marred by poor service and poor entertainment.
