We chose this cruise because it went around parts of Australia and the overall package seemed a really good deal to us. We hadn't cruised Princess before but had heard good reviews and that it was a step above RCI and just below Celebrity so we were really looking forward to it. We started in Sydney on 12th February, the staff were all friendly and smiley (except for the young lady who served us drinks in the bar as we got on! She really didn't want to serve us). The ship itself was a little bit like Ventura in as much as we quickly realised that you had to go to deck 7 to get anywhere but I found it didn't have the flow of Ventura. The shops were ok although overpriced, as are other lines, but we experienced extremely highly pressurised selling unfortunately. We found the entertainment poor overall, although the Fiero show was very good, and there was an extremely good vocalist Rietta Austin on board. Saw both her shows and her voice is magnificent, spoilt only by the "comedy" element she adds in - she really doesn't need that element to her show as her voice is outstanding and I would happily listen to her for an hour or so without the comic stuff (which I didn't like), other passengers I spoke to felt the same. The buffet was much the same as other lines, slightly better organised as waiters came and served your drinks as you sat down, which we found much better than P&O where, in the main, you get your own. The bakery was excellent and I found myself eating rolls and Danish pastries where I wouldn't normally bother! Otherwise we found the food choice and quality not to be as good as P&O or RCI. MAJOR problem for us was not having a kettle to make our own tea and coffee - especially when the jet lag meant we were waking at 3a.m and wanted a cuppa. Ringing and waiting hour 20 mins - half an hr for room service just didn't cut it for us. Also, quite often we couldn't get an answer from room service so that was irritating. We did like the fact that the Entertainment director Andrew held an all denominations church service with hymns and a little talk and was really good, we thoroughly enjoyed that. Service from staff was mixed, our dining room waiters were very nice, but elsewhere (like the coffee lounge) staff weren't very happy at all :-( Sadly our cruise was cut short due to health concerns in Malaysia and we terminated in Fremantle, I have no problem with that as it can't be helped with this Coronavirus business and Princess were looking out for our health and well being. They have said we'll get 50% of our cruise fare back (been back a week and still waiting, apparently it will be at least 10th March before we see any money back) and also 50% off a future cruise with them as long as it's to the same value and we take it before Feb 21st next year!! This last fact of cruise cut short etc has had no impact on my opinions of Princess - some things can't be helped and are no ones fault. IMO P&O and RCI are FAR superior in all aspects apart from waiters fetching drinks in buffet
