People here are wondering why nobody has yet reviewed the Christmas/New Year Spirit of Discovery cruise. It is probably because a high percentage of us found it disappointing.

The ship made every port it was scheduled for, mainly on time, and the crew on board were as good as ever, but the overall experience was not up to the standards we expect from Saga. This is a shame, as Saga were always our first choice for cruises - not any more.

Embarkation was a shambles, got on the ship and then big bottleneck of passengers just inside - Saga may need to rethink their system of escorting everybody to their cabin and just do people who want or need help, the rest of us can get there faster on our own.

Cabin Review

Lack of shelves and drawer space, lots of 3 pin sockets but only 1 twin plug socket and both the kettle and hairdryer have twin pin plugs. Very tight space between end of bed and TV, and very tight space between side of bed and wardrobe.

Shower door swings in and out, so don't lean on it. Twin cabin, but only one tooth glass (good job we don't mind sharing). Instructions for phone say how to dial another cabin, totally omit how to dial reception or medical centre.

Bed comfortable IF the mattress has been put on the right way round (label side up) mine was upside down, 2 am stripping the bed, righting the mattress, making the bed.

Cabin kept immaculately clean by steward.
