Norwegian Getaway Cruise Review by GrandmaRolls

We spent several days in New Orleans before the cruise because...well...it’s N’awlins! We stayed close enough to the port so walking there was easy. Embarkation was fairly easy; we boarded with our two carry ones, headed for O’Sheehan’s and waited for cabins to be available. The biggest drawback to our cabin location is that it overlooked the bow. Great view, but a challenging obstacle course when housekeeping carts were present. Did I mention I’m in a power wheelchair?

Our cabin, 10700, was huge, easy to maneuver around in. We’ve never seen so much storage in an ocean view! Our keypad stuck out into the corridor just enough that carts could hit it. Security had to be called the night we found the lock hanging from the wires. Seems to be a poor design, although the automatic door was a major plus.

A major disappointment was that the only pool lift was inoperational. That seems to be the norm, rather than the exception on too many NCL ships.

678 Ocean Place seemed to be a major hub of activity. We found it a bit challenging to negotiate. The Waterfront was quite enjoyable on pleasant evenings.

I did not like the fact we had to make reservations for entertainment, nor did I like that some entertainment had an entry fee. Limited wheelchair space in the theater is always an issue, fleet-wide

On the bright side, the crew was as fantastic as we have come to expect, and the food was beyond compare.

For the record, we have three more cruises booked into next year, thanks to CruiseNext!

Cabin Review

Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window

This was a large, forward facing cabin, about midship. We had plenty of space for the wheelchair. We did need to ask our steward, Mufasta, for an approved plug strip. With a clock, a BiPAP machine, a night light, a wheelchair and phones/cameras to charge, the two available outlets were woefully inadequate.

More storage than we knew what to do with!
