Traveled with children

We chose this cruise for the number of port stops and we weren’t disappointed! We got a great feel for New Zealand. We travelled with children between 7-14 and they all had a great time. Kids clubs were entertaining and staff were wonderful with them. Although decor was a little dated, cabins were a great size and layout. Balconies were spacious. The new flat screen TVs with on-demand movies were great and the movie selection suited all of us. Food was generally excellent and Canaletto was wonderful and well worth the extra charge. The children particularly enjoyed the poolside Dive-In burgers and the hard scooped and soft serve ice cream readily available in the Lido buffet. Refreshed decor in the public rooms and restaurants is lovely and modern. We enjoyed a number of the shows - the BBC Planet Earth show was a particular highlight. We also enjoyed the free Kitchen Tour and several enrichment talks from Maori cultural representatives. Fitness centre was used every morning. There was usually enough equipment, and it worked, and there was a beautiful view. However the equipment could be updated (no tv screens on individual machines). Shower/locker room adjacent to gym a lovely spot for a shower! Embarkation and disembarkation are White Bay Cruise Terminal was quick and easy. This was also true in all ports we visited. Most of our shore excursions were self-directed. We did one through HAL and it was well organised. However it was usually cheaper to use companies in each port. It was very easy in New Zealand to make our own arrangements. I would not hesitate to sail with HAL again.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

We had connecting cabins 4151 and 4155 - adults in one cabin and children in the other. We had plenty of space for 6 people’s belongings. It was hard to move around 4155 when all 4 beds were up at night. We were able to open the dividers between the balconies to have one large balcony which was great. Wonderful cabin stewards, very quiet location but convenient to Aft elevators and stairs. Deck 4 balconies are bigger than balconies of verandah cabins on other decks.

Port Reviews

Picton

We hiked in the Victoria Domain which is accessed by a footbridge from the town centre. Beautiful! Take water as it can get warm.

Wellington

Great city to tour on your own. Cable car, Botanic Gardens and Te Papa museum. Te Papa was outstanding. Lots of shops for browsing.

Napier

Small aquarium. Beautiful seafront and art-deco architecture.

Auckland

Took ferry independently to Rangitoto for hiking. Great experience. Ferry terminal adjacent to cruise ship dock.
