A Mediterranean ocean cruise- what could be better than that? Well, okay, perhap a Mediterranean cruise in the spring as opposed to the beginning of December - but weather be damned, Viking handled its part of the trip briliiantly!

The first jaw-drop was being greeted by name by so many of the crew. I used to teach and needed at least a couple of days with identification notes in order to know who's who, yet the crew actually knew us! The housekeeping staff was unparalleled!

Partaking of included excursions might have been chancy on another cruise line but not on Viking. Each excursion was well-organized and, for the most part, the guides were outstanding. Indeed, there was a good mix of different people on each excursion so we weren't stuck trekking with the same people over and over again. I must confess, however, that it would have been nice if all of our shipmates were a bit more cognizant of their physical abilities. It is annoying to be on a Medium and/or Hard excursion with people that can barely keep up.

Cabin Review

I didn't want to leave the bathroom! Heated floors, heated towel rack, color-coded lotions/shampoos...ahhhhhhhh

Port Reviews

Florence (Livorno)

Excellent guide (oh Lorena, you are funny!) and extremely interesting tour

Rome (Civitavecchia)

unfortunately we arrived too late to enjoy the port - airplane mechanical difficulties

Barcelona

La Sagrada Familia and Gaudi's La Pedrera were both Skip the Line with audio description. Amazing!

Valencia

Wonderful tour that guided us to places we were able to return to on our own. A shame there was not enough time to visit the City of Arts and Sciences in addition to the historic old town but it is what it is. Be sure to visit "Valencia's Sistine Chapel" - the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. That, along with the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona were the 2 churches really worth the time. Oh, and the Horchateria de Santa Catalina has decadent Churros & Chocolate. Yummm.

Cartagena (Spain)

Good walking city with Roman Ruins and an incredible Nativity in the Central Market (well, it was December!) and some tasty Cafe Asiatico (with liquor 43).

Cadiz

You must visit the Torre Tavira, which provides a 360-degree view of the city with its Camera Obscura. And if you are fortunate enough to be there during Semana Santa (Easter week), be sure to watch the incredible processions.
