We had been planning a trip to Rome for some time and the offer for the second-leg of the Jupiter's maiden voyage fit perfectly into our plans for a trip to Italy and a cruise to Barcelona, afterward.

Just prior to departing we discovered we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite which would have been beyond our budget and it, very much, exceeded our expectations. We were pampered by our cabin stewards and enjoyed wonderful food and entertainment.

Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and easy. Although, we arrived at the ship on our own due to being in Italy a week prior to the cruise, the process was very efficient once we were at the terminal. Disembarkation was handled by Viking and we delivered directly to the airport at the appropriate location and time to get our flight back to the US.

Cabin Review

Cabin Junior Suite

We couldn't believe the services offered at this level. Always looking for a "deal" we would never have considered this option. We had booked one step down and the additional expense would have been beyond our budget. The experience was unforgettable, though, and we will strongly consider budgeting for it in the future!

After a week in Rome we arrived with a need to do laundry. That was included at no additional charge. They shined our shoes and our laundry was returned to us wrapped like a gift package.

Besides the service the cabin was spacious, came stocked with a mini-bar with all items included and replenished at no additional charge. Two televisions, a sitting area divided by a curtain from the bedroom area if we chose to pull it all the way across the space and a wonderful balcony.

If there was a drawback it was on our first night out when the weather was rough. We usually select a stateroom that is closer to the center of the ship. This one was in the bow so there was quite a bit of motion with the wind and wave action from Rome to Pisa. That's life at sea, though!

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We spent a week in Rome on our own prior to the cruise. While there was an extra fee for changing our Viking-arranged flight, we rented a Flip-Key studio about 1/2-way between the Vatican and the Coliseum. Public transportation with the Roma Pass was a snap and we were able to find wonderful places to eat using Yelp! We were within walking distance of both the Vatican and the Coliseum, though, and a person sees and experiences so much more on foot than on a bus or in a taxi. Money well spent. About 1/2 the cost of the week-long cruise!

Florence (Livorno)

Part of the Pisa Walking Tour as an included excursion. Well worth the time. Viking's association with local experts is wonderful. Great tour.

Well worth the time. Viking's association with local experts is wonderful. Great tour. Plenty of time to see everything at a leisurely pace.
