I chose this cruise for a South Pacific holiday break and to experience a new port for me SavuSavu, Australian Survivor filming Island. It was a 14 day experience. This was also recommended as a shining, new, modern Princess ship (built 2017), with the new Sea Walk. This was different yes but it does not make up for a decent promenade deck or front and rear views on a lower deck out of sun or wind. For Sailaway had to be with the smokers or peer through the life boats as in Port of Suva to listen to the Police Band. While it did have many positives being a local departure from Sydney for me, and the on board currency in Australian Dollars is a blessing when the US dollar keeps dropping, I also appreciate there are no gratuities to add to the fare ( unless you personally reward for good service), I was a little underwhelmed in this cruise. I do feel some Princess standards have dropped.

I much enjoyed being able to use the Princess @ Sea App, on your personal phone or Ipad/tablet device, there were things however that left me disappointed.

Positives: All Princess @ Sea capabilities. Able to book Shore Excursions, read daily Patter on your device, highlight your planner events you want to visit, access all ship information on your device. Keeps you updated with weather, time of arrival/departure etc. Port information, shore excursions. Order your breakfast . Can preview your photos, absolutely everything. The best advance and very welcome.

Cabin Review

Interior

I thought this interior cabin was a great size. Excellent number of drawers and hanging space. Suitcase could fit under the bed and the shower although not huge was a very nice showering experience, and a laundry line was there to allow clothes to dry. Colours and art and the TV position worked well. I could hear banging doors however which was very annoying whether it was a crew entry door or other passenger doors. Need better insulation or to tell passengers DO NOT BANG DOOR SHUT> Think of others. I was woken at 6am due to banging doors. Not good on a holiday if like a lie in. Liked the ease of door entry with card. Although i was a very long walk forward, and seemed forever to get to my comfy bed. There was engine noise and a little rough in early part. I could hear anchor being dropped but when using an inside/interior cabin at least you know you have arrived in Port.

Port Reviews

Port Vila

Excellent port for Duty Free alcohol and Nike merchandise, food and shoes etc. In Yellow building. Fantastic water taxi ride into town past the Irrarikki Resort. Cheap and safe, pay as you go. Nice markets in town and other small shops. Good port and many markets next to the ship as well as you exit out of port secure area.

Dravuni Island

This is another tender port but such a lovely island to walk around and enjoy,. Take a hike up the mountain for great views or swim on other side of the island. Visit the local primary school, sit on the sand. One of the top visits in Fiji.

Suva

Walk into town, do a little shopping. Buy some locally made ear rings, walk in the markets. Beware of pick pockets or cut bag snatchers in the market. Be safe and aware. Marvel at the old buses. It was raining but enjoy regardless. Shuttle to town.

Lautoka

Did not get off in this port. Had been Fiji'd out by then. Last port in Fiji. Spent the day on the ship, swimming and relaxing.

Sydney (Australia)

Embarkation port. Good and efficient on board experience. Sydney is my home and a great way to start the cruise, passing the Opera House and out the heads.

Isle of Pines (New Caledonia)

we went to Lifou, a lovely tender ride from the ship. Delays returning on one journey back. Next trip much quicker. More buildings have been built. Walk up to Notre Dame de Lourde church always worth it. Flowers along the way to enjoy and scenery.
