We took this cruise because we wanted to see Fall foliage, enjoy some cool weather and visit a part of the country we hadn’t yet visited. The ship went to great measures to avoid a repeat of an apparent increase in the level of GI outbreak they experienced on the previous cruise. Crew was constantly wiping down, and no passengers were allowed to handle buffet serving utensils for nearly four

We had to endure four long sea days due to cancellation of two port calls caused by high winds up to 95 KPH. Very disappointing. We were only offered 20% discount on a future cruise as compensation. Saw very little fall foliage color change until our departure home out of Montreal.

We took no excursions, as they didn’t look very interesting and were VERY pricey. The onshore taxi tours available were much less expensive. Highlights were the Newport mansions from the “Gatsby” era and the Marine museum in Halifax. The port cities themselves were pretty dull. Very modern buildings, lots of museums and old cathedrals.

Cabin Review

Interior

Nice new big flat screen TV, awesome new mattresses and bedding, fairly soft towels, nicely re-furbished room. Very clean always. No key or card needed for entry with Medallion; you just need to be close to the door. Tiny shower. HUGE closets for a cruise ship! Very satisfied with the value for a small, inside cabin to save money! Didn’t miss the window or balcony at all!

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

Visited 9/11 memorial. The line into the museum was hours long so had to skip it.

Newport

We bought a 5 home self-guided walking tour to see the famous and fabulous “Gatsby” era summer homes/mansions and walked the Cliff Walk. Self-paced recorded tour listening devices and headphones furnished at all homes. You can take the City trolley for $1.00 from the dock to get to the homes, or you can take a long walk. They are all together. No Need to go to expense of an excursion.

Boston

Been here before. Take the awesome Freedom Trail walk and a hop-on, hop-off bus. No need for excursion.

Halifax

Maritime and Titanic museum was very interesting.

Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island)

Great fries and fish and chips at the little shack by the dock! Get some ice cream from Cows! Rated best anywhere!

Quebec City

It was wet and cold all morning in Old Quebec City. Took the short funicular ride up the slope from Lower Town to the famous Upper Town Chateu Frontenac hotel. It is the only one in North America and costs only $3.00 CD. Not much to see but the lobby and restaurant once you get there. Lots of shopping, restaurants, bars, old cathedrals and museums in town.
