We loved everything about the Viking Homelands tour. From airport pickups to tours to see the cities, it was all run like clockwork. Getting on and off the ship at every port was easy and never any lines (except for when we all returned on the train from Berlin, but we were greeted with champagne and the crew dancing and welcoming us back....my own family doesn't welcome me home like the Viking crew did!)
We took advantage of all the included tours (many were walking tours) and the guides were knowledgeable and gave insights into the history as well as the current events of the cities. The added tours we choose were all wonderful...very well run and friendly guides.
We loved all of the areas of the ship and it never felt crowded; our favorite was the explorer's lounge for the cool vibe and sweeping views. Cabin was comfy and roomy and the bathroom floor was heated. The rooms were serviced twice a day and was always spotless.
Dining was excellent; so much variety and, while you could eat decadent meals every day, there are healthy delicious options, too. And, wine with lunch and dinner was a nice treat with a great variety of wines. We also enjoyed the special poolside meals of seafood.
Entertainment was top notch...I expected it to be cheesy and corny but it was not. From talented singers to special guests, it was all five-star. Our last night brought a Bergan violinist and we were listening to a virtuoso in the finest concert hall.
All the ports were interesting with plenty to see and in most towns there is shuttle bus to get you back to the ship if you want to explore the town on your own. We really appreciated that.
Fitness center, spa, and pools were wonderful and we took advantage of all of them,.
The service exceeded expectations; Viking really takes care of you and makes you feel special. We would definitely go on another Viking trip; and we booked a Viking River cruise to Egypt while on board!
