The time on the riverboat was only a part of Viking's Roof of the World trip. It appears to be an older boat that has been refitted. The refit was done well, but the boat has issues with headroom and small steps at doorways compared to the European riverboats. My big complaint was with the food. It is an all chinese cooking staff. They have no idea how to cook western food and everything is spiced to be very hot. Also, the baked goods leave a lot to be desired.
Generally the boat's staff worked very hard and it was every bit as clean and well kept as the European river cruises I have been on. While not as nice as the newer European riverboats it is important to remember China is a vastly different culture.and they have done a good job of making it comfortable for Americans. There are great little shops onboard. The view from the front lounge is fabulous.
The air pollution in the eastern part of the trip was quite unpleasant, but it disappeared in the western part. Three gorges was the highlight. But the real highlights of this trip were ShangHai, Lhasa, the Terra Cotta warriors and the Hidden City.
Very comfortable. Great bed. Kept immacuately clean. Shower was a bit small. Overheads are low, but I am 6'3" and didn't have a problem.
