Queen Victoria Review

Elegant ship, excellent food but sometimes dress code too formal for our tastes

Normally we don't like many sea days but we'd never been with Cunard and never been to Iceland and we got a good deal so we decided to book. We both really enjoyed it as the food was excellent, the service great and the ship elegant with lots of public spaces.

We're not fans of dressing up in the evening so didn't attend any gala dinners and had to avoid most public spaces from 6pm as we weren't in smart enough attire (we were asked to leave one of the bars at 6.15pm once as we had jeans on, there are casual bars but we went back to our cabin instead and stopped buying cocktails).

We ate mostly in the Lido and had plenty of choice all the time and it was good quality. We only ate once in the dining room as 6pm is too early but the 8.30pm sitting was too late plus I'm not keen on having to dress smartly every night. Loved the food in the Red Lion and the choice in the Chart Room and the barista coffee was passable.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BB

Great cabin as it's quiet and the balcony is sheltered from most of the wind by the balcony next door which pokes out. This does mean that if your neighbours are standing on one side of their balcony they can look straight into yours but we got chatting to our neighbours so it didn't bother us. It's near to the launderette on deck 6. The aircon wasn't great though despite it being fixed and we were hot most nights.

Port Reviews

Southampton

The Tudor House and Garden is a must see. It's not big but it has a lovely tranquil garden and plenty to see in the house. It's not expensive either.

Lerwick (Shetland Islands)

We booked the South Mainland tour with Kittywake Tours and it was excellent. There were six of us in our group, all from the Queen Victoria. We had a fabulous day seeing beautiful local scenery and wildlife. I loved being so close to the puffins but equally enjoyed seeing seals lazing on a beach and stroking lots of Shetland ponies including foals. Kitty is knowledgeable, super friendly and eager to make the day work for you even asking for any advice on what could make the trip better.

Akureyri

We did an independent tour with FAB/Iceland Guided Tours. We went on FAB302 to Lake Mývatn & Goðafoss Waterfall. We really enjoyed the trip, the weather was fabulous and the scenery stunning. I picked mini bus tours as I prefer small groups particularly as it makes getting on and off the bus much quicker.

Isafjord

We did an other independent tour with FAB/Iceland Guided Tours. We went on FAB502 to Dynjandi Waterfall. We really enjoyed the trip, the weather was fabulous and the waterfall stunning. I picked mini bus tours as I prefer small groups particularly as it makes getting on and off the bus much quicker.

Reykjavik

We went on another independent tour with FAB/Iceland Guided Tours. We picked the Golden Circle tour FAB100 which was excellent. We had plenty of time at each place as we were a small group so we got on and off the mini bus quickly etc.

Greenock (Glasgow)

We booked an independent tour with BusyBus from Greenock and I’m so glad we did. As there were only six of us in the group, we were able to flex our itinerary to suit. Every stop was great although I particularly liked Kilchurn Castle. To top a great day, the weather was really good too.

Dublin

We pottered about on our own taking in the sights and really enjoyed ourselves as there's so much to see even if you don't go in any museums, tourist attractions etc.
