We had done the Rhine and couldn't wait to go again. I can't believe this is even the same cruise line. The crew was very standoff-ish. But, we made nice friends and the first few days were decent. Then, at Gottwieg Abby, we were informed that due to a broken lock, we would have to do a boat swap with Tor that night. We'd pack, they would transfer our luggage to another boat while we were touring, we'd return to the new boat and be on our way. What happened is that they stuck us on a 6-hour bus ride and delivered us to Tor - parked in an industrial waste site, complete with rumbling dump trucks and trash. There we stayed for 3 days! We found out it had already been there for 3 days prior!

Most of our tours were canceled for two days. If we wanted to do anything we had to be up at 5:30 AM and on a bus for a 2-3 hour bus ride to a faraway city....where we would get to spend a whole hour touring! We finally mutinied and told them we were staying till 4 and they had better come and get us. They did...but at 5:45!

Yet, we met other Viking passengers who had boat-swapped with little disruption. We understood the lock issue... until they tied us up for 3 days! No explanation. Calls to Viking upon return home were met with the rudest, nastiest treatment imaginable. "What do you want, lady?" I paid $10,000 for half a cruise. I would expect decent compensation. Nope, they acted as if we should have been grateful that they said, 'sorry.'

Clean but not spacious. Toilet required 4-5 pumps to flush each time. Beds were hard.

Port Reviews

Budapest

We had numerous flight delays - With which Viking did NOT assist us. So we missed our precruise days. But what we did see was very nice. Day one of the cruise was a tour of the city.

Vienna

Who sends a cruise ship to Vienna which is CLOSED ON SUNDAYS? Seriously? We got to look around and eat, but no shopping.

Durnstein (Krems)

Tours canceled. Just walked around.

Passau

Tour, again, canceled. Just walked around. At least they provided lunch this time.

Regensburg

Finally got to get off the boat and do a tour. But we had to get up so early for a LONG bus ride...But at least our tour and lunch went off. Nice city.

Nuremberg

The site of our mutiny. Viking wanted us to - again - get up at 0 dark 30 for a long bus ride from our drainage ditch to the city. They said we could have ONE HOUR, then we'd have to get back on the bus to go back to ship. Only those who had paid for an afternoon tour would be brought back after lunch. We told them 'that's it!" We said to find another bus because we were staying in the city and they could pay for taxis! They conferred and told us to meet the bus at 4, then 4:30, the 5:45! It was ridiculous. But at least we go to look around, lunch and shop.
