Alaska has been on our list for a while, so we leapt at this great deal. We knew that Glacier Bay was a definite must, which drew us to this itinerary. The Royal Princess is a Medallion Class ship, which made embarkation and onboard purchases seamless. Other passengers who did not complete the Medallion Registration to become "ship ready" prior to embarkation likely did not have the same experience we had.

We had a Deluxe Balcony cabin. I'm not sure that it was much bigger or better than a regular cabin. Our room steward was amazing. He was attentive, friendly, and accommodating.

We decided to try both add-on dining rooms. The Crown Grill was possibly the best steak I have ever had. The food at Sabatini's was delicious, however, we had an issue with our reservation which led to an uncomfortable dining experience. When we made the reservation with the hostess, we were told about a Buy One, Get One deal. We made our reservation based on this promotion. When we arrived for our meal, the restaurant manager met us at the door and told us that his hostess was mistaken and we didn't qualify for the promotion because we didn't have a coupon. Rather than simply honoring the promotion as outlined by the hostess, the manager threw his hands up, and we left. He later found us on the ship (thanks to the Medallion's tracking capabilities) and offered to honor the promotion after all.

Port Reviews

Anchorage

We spent the night in Anchorage and enjoyed our stay. We took a Ghost Tour around the Downtown area. We happened to be in Anchorage for the longest day of the year, which didn't lend to a very spooky haunted tour as the sun was still shining bright.

Glacier Bay

Glacier Bay was the reason we chose this itinerary, and the reason we booked a balcony room. We could have watched the Margerie Glacier all day long.
