As I read through several of these reviews, I'm scratching my head, but okay, I'm going to post MY EXPERIENCE as best I can and hope that folks understand that not only am I a person whose character can be selective (not snobby) and want quality for my hard neared dollar. Also, since there is not a lot on this site about this specific line and this specific ship, not trying to deny other people THEIR experience, I have to share because what I have read is far from and light years away from what we experienced.

Let me start by saying that this cruise, taken in 2019, was planned since 2012 because I wanted a high-quality cruise experience for my now deceased mom's landmark 80th birthday. Since I didn't want to cruise Viking (thought it would be too stuffy for my mom's likes), MSC became the choice because their itineraries were exactly what I wanted. I lost my mom in 2015 so my BFF (a gay man..trust me, this will matter in the review) and I decided to celebrate our moms' in spirit since he lost his mom also and make this a couple of days prior to the cruise on land/excursion beginning in Barcelona and after the trip on land as we flew to London at the end of the cruise before coming home to the states.

Flew into Barcelona from San Francisco (via Delta Airlines) and stayed a couple of days in Barcelona at a nearby Best Western (a friend works there and we received excellent service from them as well). The port city of Barcelona was PERFECT since disembarking from there helped make what could have been much more difficult, much easier.

Cabin Review

Suite

Cabin S3

The cabin was comfortable, with impeccably kept clean rooms (Anthony, our stateroom attendant is another shout-out for excellent service). We were two adults not in a relationship and they put our two "long-twin beds" part and we were quite comfortable. My travel companion is over 6'2" and heavier than 200 lbs; I'm 5'6" and weigh over 200 lbs so that says a lot because you think tiny beds (they're not) or small stateroom (hardly...two large people that didn't bump into each other). Lots of bath towels, great scented soap and shampoo. Never had a problem with water temperature in the shower, toilet not able to flush or being out of clean bath towels, bath mat or toilet/facial tissues. Lots of places to put your toiletries also...Just moved into the cabin like it was an apartment and made ourselves to home right away. A mini-bar that was well drinks appointed (didn't use it, but did use the fridge). The diamond of the stateroom is the deck..HUGE...I think my studio apartment was smaller than the stateroom without the kitchen portion. We also did laundry when we were 3/4 way into the trip and they turned around clean, soft and great smelling (mild) clothing within 24 hours even though they ask you for 48 hours to turn around the clothing.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

We were already here and flew into Barcelona. I am going to rate it 5 because it was a great port city to leave from.

Athens (Piraeus)

We didn't take an excursion but based upon those that we saw returning to the boat, were very happy.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We didn't take an excursion and was disappointed but realized it was a weekend and the weekend before Easter made it even more aware why we should have. We did get off the ship, walked around Civitavecchia and bought some souvenirs. Felt safe and comfortable, even buying souvenirs from the Senegalese guys (I'm from NYC so I know you can get great deals on them). I'm not sorry because I got some beautiful wood carved souvenirs that I paid very little for.

Genoa

Got off of the boat and ate near the ship...we wanted some real pizza and I wanted some calamari. We were very happy.

Marseille

Ship spent a lot of time here and it felt like it was great...I was sick on this day in the ship hospital but had a blast...yep, it's that cool a boat. Also, this was the day that the Notre Dame cathedral was on fire so it was pretty weird a day but it wasn't depressing,
