We have done this cruise out of New Orleans on two other smaller NCL ships. I have done 5 other cruises over the years but all were half as many people as the 4000 Breakaway. The embarkation in New Orleans was more difficult than normal because all the streets around dock were dug up and disembarkation had the same big problem.

Ship

The ship was very big to handle the +4000 people but the huge number of people caused problems with long delays getting on and off ship. The previous smaller ships we cruised seem to have more luxury with fewer people.

Port Reviews

New Orleans

Parking very expensive $40 nightly at hotel. Parking $20 nightly in long term parking for cruise. Hotels about $200 per night. Carrage ride about 45 min $100 for 4. Best value street car rides through Garden District.

Harvest Caye

Last year this was advertised as an NCL private island. Shops and food over priced. Very nice large winding pool had a very tricky entrance on one side with very wide concrete steps about 20 ft but only one hand rail. The steps were tricky, first step in normal but second step was very deep and some people fell, so hold on to the rail. One person tried to get ship's doctor to look at her arm where she fell at NCL's pool. She was told it was not NCL's pool and ship wanted $150 for doctor to even look at her arm.
