We really enjoyed our first cruise experience on the Getaway. We flew in the morning of our cruise and arrived fairly late, around 1pm, so embarkation was super easy with almost everyone else already on the ship.

For us the Ultimate Beverage Package was included and we made the most of it! We spent a lot of time at SugarCane Mojito bar and the Margaritaville Chill bar. Those places had the friendliest bartenders who could mix up some great cocktails. We also spent time at O'Sheehan's but the service was less than stellar there. Maybe it was because it's right above the atrium and is always packed but it took forever to get a drink (and sometimes to even be acknowledged).

The food was a mixed bag. In the main dining rooms (Savor and Taste) we had some excellent meals and some well below mediocre. Tropicana serves the same food but a band is playing so that somehow made everything taste better. The buffet is just straight up terrible and people eating there are like wild animals. Bring plenty of purell and keep clean before you touch your food. Now the specialty restaurants, however, were incredible! Teppanyaki is a hibachi-style Japanese restaurant and we got lucky with a fun chef and a lively table. I don't know if I can go back to eating rice without a pound a butter in it after that meal! Cagney's, the steakhouse, was also very good. My steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. We ate so much at La Cucina, the Italian place, that I practically had to be rolled out of there. Excellent gnocchi.

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BC

We loved our balcony stateroom. When the pool deck was crazy it was nice to grab a couple drinks and sit out on our private balcony and watch the sea for a few hours. The room had more storage than I was expecting as well with space for our bags under the bed and our clothes under the couch. Our stateroom attendant Alvin was great as well and kept everything clean and stocked for the entire week.

Port Reviews

Harvest Caye

This is Norwegian's private island so not exactly authentic Belize. Very clean and safe though. We rented a "Clamshell" so that we could sit on the beach and have some protection from the sun. It was relaxing but the beach is very rocky so wear some water shoes. The drink package does not work at this port so that is frustrating.

Costa Maya

We decided to take it easy in Costa Maya so we just walked around the port, which is like a giant outdoor shopping mall. We got some souvenir shopping done and found a good spot to enjoy a beverage on the sand. We also spent time at a bar - Cantina Latina - that had a Mexican Wrestling show going on. That was so much fun to watch.
