Wanted to take a Christmas Market Cruise through central Europe, stopping at various cities and markets along the way. We weren't aware until a couple weeks before sailing that many major rivers in Europe were experiencing RECORD drought and thus very low water levels in rivers. This almost meant our itin. would be severely changed or curtailed for obvious reasons. The previous 3 months of cruising on the Rhine did experience altered cruising. However, just 4 days before sailing and after some much needed rainfall, it was announced that we Would be able to sail the originally booked itinerary! Crew couldn't have been nicer! Food was very good, portions slightly small, but the cruise was a huge success. Great cabin as well. Unfortunately about 1/3 of the originally booked psgrs had cancelled after the possible changes to itin. were announced. So, the other 2/3 had a wonderful time, certainly not overcrowded. Ports were all excellent between Basel, Switz. and Amsterdam. Weather cooperated and no problems navigating the Rhine. We were so lucky! Loved the Christmas Markets, we had done similar before in central Europe, but never from a ship. The markets are so fun - if you tolerate the cold. It's not an experience that most tourists can identify with and the markets there are all similar and still unique. Small gym, and unfortunately most psgrs went to bed right after dinner. Evening entertainment was very good, most psgrs didn't get to enjoy it. Of course, no casino on most river cruises. Love the AMAPrima and the Christmas Markets!

Cabin Review

Stateroom with French balcony and outside balcony

Cabin was over 200 sq. ft and very comfortable and cozy. Bathroom modern and very nice. Adequate storage for all clothes and suitcases. TV is also computer screen for interactive usage, you wouldn't need your laptop. Balcony is small, adequate due to the winter season and cold but lots of light came through sliding and fixed glass. We loved it.

River cruising does present the "different" noises when going through locks and the Rhine does have numerous locks between beginning and end.

Port Reviews

Amsterdam

we took train (1 hr +) both ways and walked/taxi in Delft to factory. Worthwhile

Amsterdam

They seemed to be pushing sales of jewelry and watches and little info on diamond cutting or its history.

Basel

We had been in Basel a few days before cruise started, so we enjoyed the city on our own beforehand.

Rudesheim

A fun and funny talk and tasting in a wine cellar on evening tour. Very enjoyable.

Cologne

Magnificient structure not to be missed. Gothic, much history and I think the most visited tourist site in all of Germany.

Cologne

Big city, lots to see and do. Take an excursion and then explore on your own at the end. Lots of walking but easy access from where the ship docked.
