I would've never chosen a NCL cruise, but the running group we were cruising with picked the cruise. I was surprised by the quality of food, drinks and entertainment. They were all much better than I expected. Our cabin attendant, Duke was wonderful, he's one of the best I've had in16 cruises.

The disappointments were the lack of staff for a ship so large and how small all the public spaces were. They only had 1 pool for general use, or should I say nonhaven use. Kids weren't even allowed in it, they had to use a very shallow play area that contained water. We didn't have any kids with us and I still thought it was awful. On sea days the pool area was so packed with people standing, sitting and waiting to get in the pool, that you couldn't walk through the area. I have been on big ships, like Royal's Oasis of the Seas, crowding was never a problem. You could always find a chair, maybe not in a prime location, but a chair. Not on Getaway, on sea days, every chair was filled in the afternoon.

It took a long time to get waited on for food or drinks, not because the staff didn't want to help you, but because they were overwhelmed. It was sad to see how hard they worked, I tried to be extra nice to them. Some passengers were not so understanding, it was hard to watch.

Balcony Stateroom

Average, very small closet. Storage was not well thought out. Smallest balcony I've ever seen.
